My brother is a Finnish citizen.
If he is working in France, he can get you France residence card using EU family laws. As a union member state France has to allow family members of Finland citizens to live with them.

Interesting, I contacted a French lawyer who told me it wasn’t possible for my brother to sponsor me in France.....

Interesting the french government website says an EU national can sponsor a dependent family member:

https://france-visas.gouv.fr/web/france ... n-national

But please go ahead and believe your lawyer because France already has a ton of dependent family members who are not participating in the job market.

The lawyer would have reached the conclusion that the dependency does not exist.

My brother is a lawyer and one time he gave advice to his client who was charged with a serious offence, and advised him to offer a guilty plea and accept a 5 year prison term. The client pleaded not guilty and took the matter to trial and was found innocent by a jury.

This says something about your brother, not about that French lawyer.

If I was a Finnish citizen working in France, bringing my non EU American citizen brother to France would be a piece of cake for me. I know this much and I am not even a lawyer.
