Post by mtalii » Fri Apr 25, 2008 8:26 am

helloo ppo,..
Has anybody done his or her entrance exams for 2008 ??? I would really like to hear of their experiences of the exams. I will be doing my exams on 5th of may for Kemi tornio UAS, its not like i'm scared of the exams its just that getting a heads up on what to expect during the exams would be a plus to me and all the rest of the prospective students.
Ohh...and are there any students from kenya in Kemi??
Thanks

For which programme is your entrance exam?

I've already done two exams this week, and still have one on 29th.

The first one was for engineering programmes at Evtek. It went not so bad, and there weren't that many people (I'd say about 150, for 110 places available. So except if 500 others took the exam in embassies abroad, the chances to get in are rather good). I was quite surprised however there wasn't any oral presentation, nor they didn't asked about the motivations for the specific programmes you had chosen. I expected something maybe a bit more selective that just mathematic problems ...

The second exam I failed it because I had no interest for the programme anymore.

And the last one I'll take will be for engineering again, but this time there are only 20 places available, so it might be much tighter to get in! :?

Good luck with yours!

Hello! Im also curious how your exams were. Many people asked about samples and advices before test, will see if they will be nice enough to share their expirience with us. I would like to know how do you judge the level of exam. Was is predictable or anything made you wonder? What about english test? I don't ask about examples just optional level and how about that scary maths, i've heard that's not complicated at all but it's been a long time since i graduated that's why it makes me worried. And how about people :D ? From which countries came the most of them? And finally how do you see your chanses to be accepted :)

Best Regards :) !

In order who does the best or better. Lets say if somebody gets 73 points and the next one gets 72 points, the one who got 73 gets in.

And if theres more than one with 73 points they have to choose in between, then they start looking at averages or stuff like that (which all reads in the explanation of the application procedures)
Cheers, Hank W.

I just got from exam at TAMK. Essay was easy, interview too, math mostly percentages and logic, a bit tricky. There was also questions part based on what you had to read before. Very detailed...

So I've passed my last exam. Here are my impressions ...

Metropolia (engineering programmes) :
7 math exercises : simplifying expressions, inequations (with calculation of a delta, exp/ln), percentages, trigonometry ...
2 exercises either in chemistry (calculation of mass/moles/concentration) or media (two verry short "essays" related to media, no calculations).
The english test was an essay (200-230 words) on a given subject related to medias.
People present to take the exam were mainly males, from many different countries (some chinese, africans, indians, muslims ... and even few finns!!!). I'd say there were about 150 applicants, for 110 places available.

Arcada (engineering programme) :
The math test was verry similar to the samples of Stadia entrance exams : 10 exercises in all. The last 3 ones were in two parts, you had to do either the physic or the chemistry part. The questions were about simplifying expressions, basic trigonometry (calculation of cos, sin and tan), sequences, percentages, calculation of mass/moles/concentration, electrolysis, organic chemistry, mecanics (Archimede principle), binary calculation ...
The english test was, I think, a bit wore difficult than the others. It wasn't an essay but questions related to grammar, phonetic and vocabulary.
Again, people to take the exam were mainly guys, most of them from africa. About 50 applicants for 20 to 30 places.

Haaga-Helia (multilingual management assistant) :
A personality test (the kind of questions you can find in some trendy feminine magazines ...).
A "mathematic" (questions like "20 + 5 = ?") and a logical thinking test.
Two languages test : the one in english was an essay about globalization (200-250 words), the one in the 2nd language was exercises and a short essay (80-90 words). And then an oral test in english (I didn't went to this one so I can't say how it was).
Applicants were 99,99% girls. Finnish or russian for most of them, blonde, fashion victims ... Not really my cup of tea  And there were a lot of people for this one : we all had a number, and I saw someone with number 230 or so, for 54 places available.

So like it's been said before, the engineering tests aren't difficult, IF you have prepared a minimum for them. The exercices are really short (1 to 3 questions) and require you to know the basic formulaes of high school programme. I can't say much about the business programmes tests since I only passed one and did my best to fail it.

And good luck to those who still have to take their exams!

The admission time is up!
:D Just wait for the result ! Overall, the exam was quite easy to take, but not too easy to be admitted ! You know, if u can, others can too ! The one with more precise solutions will count !
