If you had read what the original poster wrote, you would see that it a fee for non-EU students that is being discussed. I assume you are Italian, so this would not affect you.noooooooo please noooo

First of all, the polytechnics do not merely, let alone primarily, exist to cater for English-language education for "foreigners" coming to Finland - the school buildings would not be left empty, as your off-hand comment seems to suggest. Just to set things into perspective... but yeah, of course I should have known, the native Finnish and Swedish-speakers are not "real" students if they aren't studying in a proper language like Englishgeniedevil wrote:Why don't they charge polytechnics? They really seem to like weaker students to Finland? Or they just know that once they charge polytechnics nobody would come and leave the school buildings empty?
Nah... I see what you mean, however as regards the recent proposal under discussion - it concerns UNIVERSITIES only. In the Finnish law concerning higher education, there are separate statutes for universities and polytechnics. Whether or not similar suggestions will be made concerning polytechnics (their Master's programmes or even Bachelor's level programmes) in the future, remains to be seen. Remember that the above-mentioned proposal is JUST a proposal at the moment, and would concern a trial period, not a "definite" change in policy. From this point of view, the polytechnics' possible tuition fees would be a separate issue, and therefore not mentioned in the original piece of news.

No, only promised when they want to get into parlament Almost like in the real world. But no worries because Jyrkki boy said that the inflation will be much lower next year (thinks he is higher then somebody above us already), the next day he said that the electricity prices will be rising considerably(probably after a phonecall with Mr.Lillius about his bonuses). I have to keep a back up plan to escape these smart people.easily-lost wrote:Would the tax be lower then?

There are no feesnricklee wrote:but what about the fees i think my pocket will no allow this.
Just please, please do try to understand that the thing has only been suggested and is under preparation; IF the universities start asking fees as suggested in 2010, they should also have implemented some kind of a scholarship opportunity scheme. No-one KNOWS yet what it may entail, not even how much exactly the suggested fees for the Master's programmes would be.
And anyway, even if the fees do come true one day... if you can't afford (insert anything here), then what do you do, in general?

Please note the bold bit - this is what is planned... so we do need to wait and see.Position of the students
Students will continue to be regarded as full members of the university. They are automatically members of the students’ union and are represented on the governing bodies .
Degree education will still be provided free of charge. The legislative reforms will, however, make it possible to charge tuition fees on a trial basis to students from outside EU/EEA countries who are taking part in separate master’s programmes, provided that the arrangements include a scholarship scheme.
