Can we work full time while studing a UAS part time degree as an international student

Post by jayanhakgjls » Fri Aug 14, 2020 3:09 pm

Is it possible to work full time while following a Master degree in UAS. The description of those courses says "Evening teaching, Weekend teaching". For example this one https://studyinfo.fi/app/#!/korkeakoulu ... 5508257683

1. Is it possible to get VISA approved for an international (for someone out side Europe, may be Asian) student for a UAS part time degree ?

2. Is it possible to work full time while following such degree. Because most of the places what I see is the work hours is limited to 25hr/week. It does not say about part time degrees.

Thanks in advance !

60 ECTS in 1 year is full-time studies.

In addition to the legal question, I fail to see how it would make sense.

If you have a full-time job offered, apply for a residence permit for that job.
Even a 4 month waiting time for a residence permit is faster than waiting for Autumn 2021 studies.

If you do not have a job offer before moving to Finland, chances are you will anyway not find a job during your first year in Finland.

True but one can do 45 only: “ You must complete at least 45 credits during an academic year.”

The degree given as example has 60 ECTS in 1 year, this one is clearly full-time.

The 45 credits are the minimum you have to successfully complete in 1 year for Migri, you will not be kicked out of the country just for failing one exam.
Full-time university studies are designed so that 60 credits per year leads to graduation in the intended time.

Thanks for the replies guys, totally make sense,

I should have add move background details.. I'm right now working remotely as a full time software engineer (Not for a Finnish company). So the location I'm working does not matter. My intention was to continue the same job while following masters.

1. 60 ECTS Credits , OK that make sense . The link i sent seems to be a full time degree even though it says " Evening teaching, Weekend teaching".

Jut to confirm , this one https://studyinfo.fi/app/#!/korkeakoulu ... 3310572458 only has 60ECTS credit but in 2 years. That means average 30 Credits per year. So this course does not going to work for me at all?

2. Any other easy way to move to Finland, considering my existing remote job :D ?

The setup of evening/weekend teaching and mandatory several years of prior work experience sounds similar to MBA to me, people might work reduced hours during the one study semester and then their Masters thesis is done at their employer.

It is likely not required to do it this way, but that's how the study organization makes sense.

You won't get a residence permit for part-time studies.

Why do you want to move to Finland?

Your list of degrees looks a bit random, what is your career plan after the degree?

Take a sabbatical or quit your current job, and then study full-time with your savings.
This would also avoid having to sort out taxation and social security in Finland for your remote job.
