Boxing/mma in Helsinki

Post by lmtduffy » Mon Nov 02, 2009 7:24 pm

Hey,

Im here for the year and want to continue with some kind of physical sport, Ive done Judo and Thai-boxing before and figure Id like to do something a bit different.

So anyone know of any good clubs that do boxing or mma and accept beginners?
Ive found a few different things online but figured Id ask for some first hand experience here too.

My level of Finnish is basic but improving so I figure Id be able to manage with some extra attention.

Cheers,

Moi!

I've heard good things about Tarmo boxing: http://helsingintarmo.com/ but I've never been there myself.

If you've done Judo before and ever feel like coming back to the tatami then I can personally recommend Chikara Judo Club: http://www.chikara.fi/ It's not a problem to train there with little Finnish.

Hi

I dunno what you have seen already but....

If you want MMA / NHB in Helsinki you could try:

http://www.gbgym.com/

Or check this link:

http://www.vapaaottelu.fi/

Click on Jäsenseurat and you'll find a list of clubs on the left, all in different areas of Funland.

Check this link too for Helsinki / Vantaa / Espoo:

http://www.kamppailulajit.net/kaupungit/index.html

When you click on the city, look for Vapaaottelu

(Vapaaottelu = Shootfighting, shooto, mixfight, pancrase, freefight, vale tudo, NHB (no hold barred), MMA (mixed martial arts), cage fighting, pankration, ultimate fighting.)

Don't worry about English, most Finns speak English to some degree...I have trained NHB here and competed in SW here and met people from all over Finland and most people involved in NHB speak ok English, they are often travelling or organising seminars with foreign fighters etc so are used to it....

hope the info makes sense...Get in touch if you need any help.
