Vuosaari has a lot of Russian and African immigrants.
Or Kamppi is full of Europeans. Every second person speaks English.

I presume Otaniemi has become quite multicultural. In general, where you have students it gets a bit mixed.

How about Kallio?

Here's a map for percentages of foreign speakers:

Though you should note that going by this guide you would end up in the suburbs where housing is cheaper. If that's not your thing, then consider other criteria.

Note also the drop down menu near the bottom of the page. The map is rather strange as everything between 5-20% (most of the area) is lumped to one group.

Yes, the drop down menu is the best feature.

The map --

is not accessible without a subscription.

Anyone know of another source?

Or disable JavaScript for that particular site, no more ugly pop-ups for subscription
The HS paywall's 'operating engine' is via Javascript?

Javascript and HTML5 “local storage” (a cookie-like technology), maybe some other magic as well.

Switching into “private browsing mode” is sufficient for resetting the counter (for that particular private session, which you need to close and reopen to refresh.)

HS rather wants you to read their site than not visit it all. Their primary goal is not to block unauthorized access but to convince you to pay for the content. That isn’t possible if without offering a steady stream of freebies. So, they’re offering you a certain number of articles each week and making your browser block access to the others when you have read “too much”. Making such restrictions work at the server end (and not in your browser) would probably just be too much trouble and not worth the effort — requiring a policy of forced registration and a compulsory login to be any safer from circumvention. (Forcing people do that to get the freebies would just drive most of them away before they have even sampled your content.)

Most people simply use the browser “as is” and don’t know any better. And they can’t be bothered to do anything about it, except perhaps pay for a subscription. Implementing very draconian protections would be a game of diminishing returns, or even counterproductive.

Slightly related: The HS.fi articles published as headlines on news aggregation services — such as Ampparit.com — feature an additional URL parameter which makes the paywall system disregard that article and not count it into anyone’s weekly allotment. This URL parameter is different for each article, though, so you cannot reuse it with another article.

(There are lots of places where you can hide session data in browsers. Paysites and ad/tracking networks often use a multitude of the techniques if they want to make their grip on your very persistent: http://samy.pl/evercookie/ )

It seems to me that one of the ways counting happens is via recognition of your internet provider # - ISP.

That works too (you have close and reopen the browser after every five pages viewed).
