Television Digibox

Post by galwayguy » Sun Sep 12, 2021 6:30 pm

A friend lives in an apartment in Espoo. She receives TV via cable & doesn't have a Digibox. Is it possible to buy a digibox recorder that will record tv programs ? Could she get any recorder that it digital compatible as the cost in Finland is high ?

One needs a tuner - DVB-C for cable TV in Finland - and a storage medium. Some TVs have a USB connection via which it's possible to store programs to an external USB drive. Also some digiboxes have a USB connection for storage, recording digiboxes have an internal hard drive (in addition to a possible USB connection).

Note that a tuner is required for each channel bundle. If the TV or the digibox has only one tuner, one can watch/record channels only from one bundle at a time, some models may even be limited to watching/recording only a single channel at a time. With multiple tuners, channels from multiple bundles can be watched/recorded simultaneously, in which case there may be performance related limitations on how many channels may be recorded while watching another (even if all are in the same bundle), e.g. at most record two and watch a third. Also paid channels using a CI+ card for channel decryption may be limited to only single such channel watched/recorded at a time.
