A Drinking Club with a Running Problem

Post by tiinajk » Mon Oct 06, 2003 11:59 am

Hi all...

I wanted to let you know of the Helsinki Hash House Harriers and Harriettes. It's a chapter of a globally recognised club that is mostly expats that can be found in almost all countries and major cities.

I found this club a great source of social activity and has also given me the oppertunity to travel on the cheap to other Hash events in Europe. If you want to check it out, go to the website and read about the upcoming events and find links to other Hash activities around the world.

It's not for everyone but if you want more information, please don't hesitate to mail here or to the contact on the site...

Just found out what they mean by "running problem!"

To join you have to run 5 KMs every Sunday. ..that disqualifies me and you Hank!

"Running" can be taken in a number of ways... generally there is a 5 km or so run available for those who want to participate but I for instance only do the "walkers trail" that ranges from a nice afternoon walk or then a stroll to the closest cafe/bar to wait for the runners to arrive back.

Your problem is that you seem to be an East End group..i.e.Vuosari..
I can only think of one of our gang who lives that side of the Vantaa Joki.
Olle..he does trot about the footbal pitch blowing his whistle...if the kids dont make too many long passes he can sometimes keep up..
He might be persuaded to run... but only to the nearest pub after 90 minutes.

Runs are arranged by volunteer "hares" from any side of Helsinki/Vantaa/Espoo and even out of town runs. There is always instructions on how to get there by public transport.

Sunday just gone the run was at Leppävaara, others before that Lauttasaari, Munkkineimi, center, etc. One of the ideas is that you get to see parts of city that you normally wouldn't visit.
