What kind of winter boots do you have?

Where to buy? Where can I find? How do I? Getting started.

My all time favorites from my northern Minnesota days were Sorel Caribous. Felt liners that can be removed easily, warm as heck, high/tall enough to keep snow from getting down inside from over the top, soles never slipped on anything. (Note the soles I had are different from what is now pictured on the website.)

I believe it is a Canadian company. Website indicates there is a distributor in Vaasa.

How do you recognize non-slippery soles while you are still in the shop?
I vaguely remember a suggestion I once read on Hesari to test the shoe/boot by sliding it on the back on your hand but... any better way?

I just found my Land's End winter boots from 2003.

I skipped wearing them because they never felt right. Hubby helped me lace them up and they fit like a champ!

I have to have pretty shoes even in the winter! :D
My feet are never cold, and it's been a few years since the last time I fell down.

I wear these shoes,

These in brown by Bronx, an american brand, I think. Had to have additional layer added to the soles to prevent accidents. http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/7950057/c/4709.html

This type, but they are calf boots, by Vagabond, swedish brand. http://www.vagabond.com/Flash/default_content.htm

And this type, only with that wedge thing, for everyday usage by Tamaris, german brand.

For the chaps, I can strongly recommend Viking Brand Gore Tex boots, 59 euros from Prisma. Google Viking, its a Norwegian company who only sell waterproof footwear.

Rubbery soft sole, not hard plasticky oily sole.

Will combat or safety boots such as Haix' be sufficient? I started to notice low-height shoes feel very cold for prolonged walking, and the normal leather boots feel very puny against harsh weather :|
