You may apply (while your student permit is still valid) a six month permit for the purpose of looking for a job. WOrk permit you cna apply only if you have that job available.

I would suggest you not to apply for the 6-month permit in a hurry. You'd just be reducing the time available to find a job. You can look for a job with your student permit as well. Apply for the 6-month permit once your B permit is going to expire.
