cheap place to change winter tires to summer

Post by biz_it » Fri Apr 10, 2015 11:57 pm

Hi,

I do not know what is expensive or cheap way of exchanging my winter tires with summer one as I have recently started driving. Can someone please recommend a cheap and reasonable place/workshop that can change my tires. I will appreciate it. I live in Espoo so any place in Espoo/Helsinki will be good

Thanks

Cheap? Get a jack and do it yourself. Expensive? Prolly 30€ (we are talking about 15 minutes of work). Doing it yourself without many machinery the time will be closer to one hour than 15 minutes. Btw, you should check the bolts after few hundred km and tyre pressures wouldn't hurt either before that...

Hi.
You will get all the needed info by googling "edullinen renkaiden vaihto Espoo (Helsinki)".
Just a few days ago in a Finnish newspaper, there was an article about the risks of changing the tyres by yourself
so the job cannot be recommended to everyone.
With my old car Golf, I used to change the tyres by myself, but years went by and the chassis became rusty and
one time, the car slowly came down after jacking up. This traumatized me like hell. After that experience, I do not do that
by myself any more.

I used neighbourhood Kuljetus Reen Oy for the change and paid them 30€.

cheers, masao

Well, that article was full of FUD, but if you really don't know how to change tyres yourself, do not have the time or place to do it, or just plain don't want to, basically every garage will do it for ~30€. I guess I'd go for a one reasonably close to me, mainly because I'm lazy. And it worked OK the last time.

The OP is also bit late with the question. Just find some place that is practically located and get it done.

Hi All,

Many thanks for all the info. I was looking for a garage/workshop to do it for me and was looking for a place/pricing that was the minimum available. I think 30 euros is quite an OK price so will now start looking the nearest place to Matinkyla and do it asap.

Once again, thanks for the suggestions.

I think at least half of the vehicles driving around still have studded tires on. the law is quite stupid in linking the removal of studded tires to easter, who drafted such a bill.
I'm really happy with the friction tires I use at this time of year. no fussing about when to take them off and they have shorter stopping distance on bare roads than studded tires (which after mid march is pretty much most of the time in southern finland now).

Easter was a week ago and my eyes wouldn't confirm your statement. I mean the situation now (or yesterday) not week ago.

I don't think the reasoning behind the "Easter clause" is that bad. There is still larger number of Southern urbanites that venture outside their normal zones at that time. There was some rather interesting road weather at the very beginning of April, so it wasn't that badly off from actual road conditions this non-winter (In Helsinki) year either.

I just realized the OP only talked about winter tires. If they are not studded, there is of course no urgency.

But the dates of easter vary wildly from year to year, so last year the tires could be on almost until May. Next year they should be off by the start of April?

Easter:
2014: April 20
2016: March 27
