I also received a reply from Migri and as my permanent residence card was issued in 2005 it seems that i'm already registered in the EU.
But it seems also that it is possible we will have to apply for a residence permit as a Third-Country National. :(

I registered my permanent stay with the police (2016) before migri handled it. I have a Finnish driving licence, Kela etc. I’m married to a Finn and have a daughter, mortgage everything so this Brexit is a complete pain. Do you need to do anything now with Migri? I will have to wait in order to get my Finnish passport I think it’s 4 years if you are married?

The British government announced this week that as from now all EU citizens that have been resident in the UK for 5 years can apply for Settlement Status to stay in the UK with all the benefits free of charge. Good news for Finnish citizens in the UK so I think the Finnish government should do the same for us Brits in Finland.

Remember who originated all this in the first time, it wasn't Finland.

So you are saying that all the Brits that have lived and worked in Finland for many years have caused this situation?

I don't. I am saying that it was Britain who decided to exit the EU, so we shouldn't expect the Finnish government to fix this. You get the point?

I mean it would be nice if they do, but they are not obliged to do so.

I did not vote to leave the EU as i'm sure all the Brits in Finland did not vote to leave it's not our fault, but at least the UK government is doing the right thing to protect Finnish citizens in the UK so the Finnish government should also protect British citizens in Finland.

Don't blame Finland, blame the UK.

If the UK wanted it, they should have negotiated it (and agreed upon it  ). Again, don't blame Finland for UK's negotiation skills.

How does one do that? What does it look like?
As he persisted, I was obliged to tootle him gently at first and then, seeing no improvement, to trumpet him vigorously with my horn.

I called Migri yesterday. I moved to Finland in 2013 and was registered as a permanent resident. Migri confirmed this status and informed that I don't need to take any extra steps at the moment.

However I can apply for a certificate to prove my status. I'll do that now. However, what's not clear yet to anyone is what will be the mechanism for entry at the border after the exit.

Hi,just wondering why you need a certificate to prove your status if you already have permanent residency?
also as UK citizen is it worth getting permanent residency if we are out of the EU end of March anyway?
I have been registered since 2006, and Migri told me I don’t need to do anything else! its not a permanent residency permit.
If only we knew what we really need to do...... 🤔☹️

You're quite right. The certificate just proves the status in a way. There is no guidance as such but the migri website suggests that we can opt to get this certificate of permanent stay in case things go south, i.e. hard Brexit. However, there's just no info about what will happen at the border if there are no arrangements? How will this certificate help? Anyway I spent/wasted half my day just to have a little peace of mind. Having started a tech startup here and having to constantly move in and out of the country is making me very nervous right now.

So how did Finland and the UK manage before they joined the EU? You got a visa on arrival maybe 90 days, work or longer stay had to apply for residence permit so the same as now nothings changed has it? I first came to Finland in the 80's no visa required.
