Passport Renewal

Post by daly » Mon Feb 04, 2019 3:28 am

Hi Everyone,

I have a question about passport renewal please. I want to renew my Finnish passport and the online application indicated that I need to visit a police station to complete the application. I need to take ID with me but I only have my expired Finnish ID card and a valid driver's license on me. This is what I found on poliisi's website:
When visiting a licence services point, applicants must prove their identity by bringing along a valid passport or identity card. The Police will be able to identity the applicant even without these documents, but this can take a long time. If you do not have a passport or an identity card, bring your driving licence and any other documents that you think could be used to verify your identity
So my question is; has anyone had a similar experience? Do they accept an expired ID card? Will it delay the application "a long time"?

Appreciate your guidance on this matter.

Thanks.

Nah, they quiz you with the stuff they have in their databases. Mother's maiden name, time of moves etc.

For my wife (living abroad), the appointment lasted all of ten minutes to renew both passport and ID card. She picked up the new ones 48 hours later.
As he persisted, I was obliged to tootle him gently at first and then, seeing no improvement, to trumpet him vigorously with my horn.

I should clarify that was on a visit to Helsinki.
