Banking - origin of fund for initial deposit?

Post by agroot » Wed Mar 20, 2019 6:53 pm

I'm moving to Finland and I was told some proof of origin of fund is needed for large sum of cash deposit - normally a bank statement would do, but I wouldn't be carrying cash from my country across half of globe or being able to get a statement for future withdrawal.

Are there some rules or examples, as to how much cash would be requiring origin/proof of fund? If I withdraw via VISA ATM in Finland, would it be okay to show them the withdrawal receipt itself plus a proof of my account number/name (past statement etc)?

Technically I could also use an international brokerage account to transfer cash without teleporting back to my country (thanks to their backward rules!), but that should raise some eyebrow yes? Especially since that account isn't valid for Finnish resident and I'm supposed to move to their European branch later (which requires proof of address requiring rental requiring security deposit.. circular dependency again).
