Friends.. Anybody?

Post by M00nbean » Wed Jun 05, 2019 9:50 pm

Hi,

I'm a 22 yo American female who just moved to Finland and got married. I've been here for about a year and unfortunately have yet to make any friends. Was hoping to maybe seek out some friends who live kinda close to where I do and maybe chat and go out at some point? I play video games and plan on attending art school, amongst other things. I need someone to get out of the house with and adventure. If you're interested just leave a comment.

Thanks :beamer:

Is it not easier to make friends with people who have the same hobby? Or colleagues? It intrigues me that some people could make friends with anyone in some countries.

You need to disclose where you live for people to know if they are close to you.

I suppose it would be, but as of right now I am not working or in school so it's a bit difficult. I'm also not really the person for going out to social scene ie bars, clubs. So that makes all this more difficult lol. Lately I'm finding it very hard to cope with the loneliness and I find I'm missing my friends back home very much so.

Do you go out of the house? Do you have any contact with people other than your husband? What about your husband family? Do you have any hobbies other than sitting to play video games?

If you do have contact with people, try to enforce that relationships. You probably don't need to find new people, but to build stronger relationships with the people you already know. And you don't need to make best friends for life, don't be afraid of less deep relationships, you need to start somewhere.

The only people I have here in Finland are my husband and his family, and that's only when we visit every couple months. They live in Porvoo so it's not like we can go see them everyday. There is also the fact that most of his family aside from his brother don't speak English too well and I know little to no Finnish so we have a language barrier and it makes it awkward when trying to have a conversation. I have other hobbies, painting or drawing, anything to do with art really. Books and reading are also apart of my hobbies. Even if I found friends that didn't have all of the same interests as me it would be fine, I'm cool with trying new things as long as it doesn't involve drugs lol.

https://www.mylanguageexchange.com/

On that site you can double friendship with language exchanging. Whichever site you go to, put some effort into your ad. I can't be bothered to contact people who have barely said anything about themselves.

Then there's language cafes that tend to be held at libraries or such.

If you still can't find anyone, post again and maybe someone knows another site.

From your posts here, I have an impression that you have taken a brave step in your life.

A bit about me. I like open-air concerts (Rock/pop/metal), visiting places such as the old city (for example, Tallinn old city). I like music and movies ( Hollywood and world movies as well, especially Korean and Chinese comedies) I am highly interested in other culture and new people and I like travelling when I have the chance. From Couchsurfing, I host/meet people around the world and take them to show some nice places in Helsinki. By the way, I have a new American working colleague.

Hope you have found some people. If you still want to increase the circle, please do not hesitate to contact (PM) here at first.
