Hi,
Wondering what would be the arrangements for people in quarantine? How would people get food?
Not in the situation yet, but wants to know, just in case.
Thanks & wish everyone a safe and healthy day!

If you live in their delivery area, then online stores (both K and S have online delivery). In the boonies, you could ask friends or family to shop for you.SunGlasses wrote: ↑Sun Mar 22, 2020 8:48 pmWondering what would be the arrangements for people in quarantine? How would people get food?

In any case it is a good idea to have supplies for 1-2 months at home now.SunGlasses wrote: ↑Sun Mar 22, 2020 8:48 pmWondering what would be the arrangements for people in quarantine? How would people get food?

Pasta/Rice/Frozen - there is plenty of durable food you could keep as reserve, and just eat normally afterwards if you don't need it in the coming months.

So far there is no evidence that food supply chains would have major disruptions. The system is not built for people quickly hoarding a month of supply so doing so is likely more harmful than useful. It's only recommended people keep a 72h supply.FinlandGirl wrote: ↑Sun Mar 22, 2020 9:24 pmIn any case it is a good idea to have supplies for 1-2 months at home now.

Yes, most people are not going to have problems shopping every week (it's a good idea not to plan to go shopping every day or two!). The only situation where you would need more supplies is if you have tested positive and have been told to quarantine for 14 days or more, or you live with someone who's tested positive or has serious symptoms ... and you have no friends or relatives, or helpful neighbours, who can deliver shopping to your door.
The shops themselves are not going to run out. At least not for long ... right now everyone is stocking up ... even things like minced beef, flour, yeast are out (Lohja area). But they'll restock soon.

When the evidence arrives, people who did not prepare in time will be screwed.betelgeuse wrote: ↑Sun Mar 22, 2020 11:13 pmSo far there is no evidence that food supply chains would have major disruptions.FinlandGirl wrote: ↑Sun Mar 22, 2020 9:24 pmIn any case it is a good idea to have supplies for 1-2 months at home now.

Whatever is recommended by the Finnish government is just a bunch of lies.betelgeuse wrote: ↑Sun Mar 22, 2020 11:13 pmThe system is not built for people quickly hoarding a month of supply so doing so is likely more harmful than useful. It's only recommended people keep a 72h supply.
The WHO says 20% of all people infected with COVID-19 will need hospital care.
The numbers published by the Finnish government claim that only 1% of all people infected in Finland will need hospital care.
The 0.1% fatality rate (similar to the seasonal flu) that is claimed by the Finnish Government has been debunked as fake news weeks ago by every reliable non-Finnish source.
The WHO recommends testing as much as possible, Finland reduces testing.
Even THL admits that the actual number of current infections in Finland might be 20 or 30 times the number of confirmed infections.
The way things are going Finland will have more COVID-19 deaths than China, 100k infections in Finland will be enough to surpass China in deaths.
Supply chains and supermarkets might or might not continue to work, I wouldn't bet my life on that.

But you do realise this is basically a definition of "panic buying" and if even a few % of people follow your advice the supermarkets will be empty like in the UK, USA and Australia (for some reason English speaking countries seem to be afflicted by panic buying)FinlandGirl wrote: ↑Sun Mar 22, 2020 9:24 pmit is a good idea to have supplies for 1-2 months at home now.

Panic buying is when everyone realizes at the same time that now is the last chance to buy.riku2 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 23, 2020 12:57 pmBut you do realise this is basically a definition of "panic buying" and if even a few % of people follow your advice the supermarkets will be empty like in the UK, USA and Australia (for some reason English speaking countries seem to be afflicted by panic buying)FinlandGirl wrote: ↑Sun Mar 22, 2020 9:24 pmit is a good idea to have supplies for 1-2 months at home now.
Spread over a month it is basically a month of everyone buying twice the normal amount, this is something supermarkets and supply chain can cope with.
Maintaining the supply chain will be a lot harder when the whole country will be under lockdown for 2-3 months.
