School reopening

Post by SunGlasses » Mon May 04, 2020 8:59 pm

Hi all,

As we know that the school will be reopened in May 14th.
How many of You will send Your kids to school? What is the consequence that You keep them home?

Thanks!
SG

I wouldn't risk the health of my family in this deliberate attempt to create more COVID-19 infections in Finland.

If you have a good reason (e.g. someone with a risk factor in the family) contact the school in advance.

What happens if you inform the school on the 14th that your child has a sore throat?
Even after a negative COVID-19 test it is recommended to stay in quarantine-like conditions until symptoms are gone.

Children can become infectious but they are mostly asymptomatic and do not easily infect others.

Keeping schools closed is a big disservice to the children, and a violation of their right to learn. It costs a lot of money to society. In the Economist it was mentioned that Norway has estimated it costs e150 million per day in Norway.

The latter part of your statement might not be true:

Do grandparents have a (moral) right to see their grandchildren?
Do Finnish seniors have a right to live a normal life?

"Costs include parents missing work to tend to children as well as decreased future productivity based on missed education."

Regarding "tend to children", 2 weeks school between 2 months of remote teaching and 2 months summer vacation are not really helping.
How many billion Euro does it cost that the Finnish government wants parents to tend for their children during the whole summer vacations by adding an infection risk in schools that prevents children from spending summer with their grandparents?

Regarding missed education, do you believe 2 weeks of chaos at the schools will be better than the working remote teaching?
It is not easy to switch a school to strictly following social distancing rules.
Gatherings of more than 10 people continue to be banned for the rest of of this month.

To date, there are no documented cases where children under the age of 18 have passed the COVID virus to an adult. Google it!

Why is the government telling grandparents that they must not see their grandchildren this summer?

Given that the virus survives on surfaces etc. (for some time), the more contact there is, the bigger the chance of spreading the virus.
