Why is it often hard to find Finnish speakers at construction sites then?FinlandGirl wrote: ↑Sat Oct 31, 2020 8:27 pmIT is the only field with many jobs that do not require Finnish.

Pure speculation: those jobs are mostly migrant labour, and (if not from EU countries) not the kind of job - or wage level - that would support a residence application.betelgeuse wrote: ↑Sun Nov 01, 2020 2:07 pmWhy is it often hard to find Finnish speakers at construction sites then?FinlandGirl wrote: ↑Sat Oct 31, 2020 8:27 pmIT is the only field with many jobs that do not require Finnish.

Because the people are not employed in Finland and are not paid Finnish salaries?betelgeuse wrote: ↑Sun Nov 01, 2020 2:07 pmWhy is it often hard to find Finnish speakers at construction sites then?FinlandGirl wrote: ↑Sat Oct 31, 2020 8:27 pmIT is the only field with many jobs that do not require Finnish.

They can't legally do that. Of course construction is a problematic area in terms of following the law.FinlandGirl wrote: ↑Sun Nov 01, 2020 5:43 pmBecause the people are not employed in Finland and are not paid Finnish salaries?

Another job where it is common to find non-Finnish speakers is personal assistant (henkilökohtainen avustaja) for a person with disabilities. Many such people prefer to only hire Finnish speakers, but in the capital region especially, many are happy to hire non-Finnish speakers as well. If you search for "henkilökohtainen avustaja" on the TE-palvelut website, look for ads that say non-Finnish speakers are welcome to apply. Note that this may be stated in Finnish in the ad, so Google Translate is your friend here
Another option, if you are in the capital region, would be in certain restaurants. Chains like Fafa's hire non-Finnish speakers frequently, as do many restaurants in larger shopping centers such as Kamppi in Helsinki. Note that most restaurants do require Finnish, however.
Posti also hires non-Finnish speakers to distribute the mail, though there aren't many opportunities right now due to COVID.
