Regarding labour unions

Post by ogiv » Tue Nov 24, 2020 10:30 am

Hello, what is your opinion on joining a labour union?

In case you are enrolled with an union, what benefits do you have?

Do I need to formally inform my employer that I am part of a union?

Finally, in your opinion, what is the best labour union for a person working in IT?

Thanks in advance for your responses.

Varies by union. See, for example:

Thanks betelgeuse for your response.

Request others who are currently members of a trade or labour union to specify the benefits that they get from being a member.

Also, if you are from IT or know about IT, what is the best trade union, in your opinion?

I am also going through the link given by betelgeuse and the below links, but it would be great to hear someone's opinions on trade unions on this forum. :)

I just recently started working here and considered it as well. For starters, I did not join it for financial reasons. I might do it later though.
Well you asked for reasons to join, and I can't give you any, but I wanted to drop the idea of joining an unemployment fund:

https://kokokassa.fi/en/

They don't cost much but add up significantly if you lose your job. It seems pretty standard so most likely you're in one already.

Join tek and also get their koko fund. If you get into legal trouble or disputes with employers, you can consult them for free. It is also tax deductible and they report automatically to vero for you.
