Hey guys,
Wondering how difficulty to get a job opportunity at Finland? I’m currently working as Junior Civil Engineer at Melbourne Australia with 4 years working experience. Plan to move to Finland to live with my boyfriend sometimes next year. If somebody could guide me what to do from now on before arriving day would much appreciated. Also, I can’t speak Finnish at all but for now I start taking private Finnish lesson. Kiitos !

Learning Finnish 24/7 is a good idea - especially outside IT jobs that do not require speaking Finnish fluently are rare.

Are you a B.Eng or a M.Eng? One option if you are B.Eng is to enroll in the university and do your M.Eng, "diploma engineers" have the light shining out of their arse as opposed to "upgraded technicians" over here.

Hi Pursuivant, I'm B.Eng. I plan to continue Master at Helsinki Uni. But also wanted a job while doing my Master. Do u think easy for me to apply abroad from now on?
When u mentioned "diploma engineers" -- is that meant high TAFE graduted student? What is "upgraded technicians"? Heh heh. Sorry.

M.Eng = "diploma-engineer" and B.Eng = "vocational school engineer".

Now that you've opened
that can of worms, let's explain the reasoning behind it. A bunch of established engineers (translation: old farts with Bachelor degrees) got together and decided that in
today's education world, a Bachelor degree is about what they (the old farts) received as a high school education which they got back in the 60's. A Masters degree indicates that the student has learned how to read a few books and plagiarize well enough to write a passable thesis. A PHD indicates that the student can not only read but may also have a few innovative thoughts or ideas and is able to present those ideas clearly enough that others (the old farts) can actually use them.

Socialism has never managed to create anything beyond corpses, poverty and oppression.

Well, the Finnish worms were divided classically in two groups. University - loads of maths - 5-6 years - "diploma engineers" with M.Eng... B.Eng was...not. There was a "college engineer" who attended a Technical College for 3-4 years. So that was the classical division, the white- and blue-collar engineers. Then came the big rush to re-invent the colleges into polytechnics or Universities of Applied Science and the B.Eng came about with the Bologna equivalents. Nowadays the "proper" universities also have a B.Eng .... so there is a pecking order there. Oh and back in the day there was a "technician" degree as well, and when the polytechnics came about all the alumni got letters to upgrade their technician or engineer degrees to B.Eng

So as a word of warning for Shida, Finns aren't really that pissy regarding titles, but the engineers directly loaned the title off the Germans as well as the attitude of being pissy about it. So don't mix up the diploma and mortal engineers or you'll be as if you farted in church.

I thought that was OK now as long as you wait until the organ is playing bass pipes.
As he persisted, I was obliged to tootle him gently at first and then, seeing no improvement, to trumpet him vigorously with my horn.

You're right, I was confused. I was thinking of Presbyterians. The Lutheran church still resists reforms like these.
