Dear Finland Forum Members,
Greetings from DownUnder.
We're 2 Aussies from Melbourne, who are looking to pursue a dream of relocating to Finland in the near future (longing for the cold and snowy winters and the proximity to our families). We are in possession of European passports, so we don't expect any visa problems.
Unfortunately, we don't speak the Finish language, but we're more than willing to learn once we're living there. Learning Finish is essential, will take time, but from DownUnder impossible to achieve. This makes a job hunt harder, especially if you apply from abroad.
One of us is a software engineer, the other a Controlling Manager (Finance with Manufacturing background). Over the last 3 months, despite impeccable CVs and a great skill set, we applied for several jobs without success. The application process seems to take ages and we only get standard rejections. Usually the jobs ads we applied for, where in English and English was the company language.
Can anyone give us some hints how we can tackle the job hunt problem in Finland? Is there a secret remedy which we missed or is it simply impossible to find a job from so far away?
Thanks in advance.

How to find a Job from Australia in Finland?

Not impossible but not easy and it can take a long time. Can anyone give us some hints how we can tackle the job hunt problem in Finland? Is there a secret remedy which we missed or is it simply impossible to find a job from so far away?
Using your Finnish contacts to get introductions might help.
An other option is finding Ausie companies that have a presence in Finland.

Your best bet is probably being in Finland when looking.
Unless you are some super doper experts with very good CVs, probably your chances are nil. The job market is horrible there in Finland. So many unemployed. So many Engineers and others with Masters and tons of expertise, unemployed.
I wish you luck.

You don't need to let the employer know you are applying from abroad.2Aussies wrote: Unfortunately, we don't speak the Finish language, but we're more than willing to learn once we're living there.
