Trademark restrictions for manufacturing

Post by vla » Mon Aug 26, 2019 7:38 pm

Hi!

I was wondering if I can manufacture clothes using trademark fabrics, like Marimekko, Finlayson or whatever. Is it legal? Where can I find this kind of information? What does finnish laws say?

Thanks for the link but I don't speak finnish.

So if I buy a Marimekko fabric and I go to Eurokangas and I ask them to make some curtains out of that, it's not legal? If I buy the fabrics I cannot ask a tailor to make a dress out of it? So what's the point of they selling fabrics?

Well I just went to the point and asked straight to them (Marimekko). They said that I can do whatever I want with their fabrics as far as I don't sell the products as if they were theirs (sounds obvious). So basically it's OK if I offer the tailoring service.

(Needless to say, it does not say that one could not do that.)

Yep. Wasn't it rather obvious from the very beginning?

Yeah did not notice that Google was still pointing to the old law. Any way the law still places restrictions on trademark usage.

I answered based on the meaning of the word manufacture which is different from what vla later explained he wanted to do: "to produce goods in large numbers, usually in a factory using machines:" https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictio ... anufacture

Obviously one can do anything with trademarked goods with the permission of the trademark holder.
