Having income out of Finland and applying for citizenship

Post by Vahid8080 » Mon Oct 21, 2019 7:12 pm

Hi,

I have registered a company ''TMI'' in Finland. I recently talked with a company in my home country and I am going to do some projects for them.
They pay me for it.
I am also right now filling required years for being citizenship (4 years A) and studying for Finnish language test.

I am wondering is it possible with the contract which I receive from the company in my country, and my income from that contract can I apply for my citizenship?

In better word, my costumer is out of Finland but my company is inside Finland and I am going to pay my tax as well (based on my abroad income).

Thanks for your kind advice in advance.

You could have found the answer in the Migri website:
If your livelihood is based on income from your own business, your application must have the following attachments:
  • a trade register extract that is six months old at most
  • an income statement and a balance sheet covering the previous accounting period
  • a certificate from an accounting firm on paid salaries or private withdrawals

TMI = company. Companies don't work for other companies, they sell services. And of course Finnish company will have to declare their income in Finland regardless where that income comes from. So not only is it possible, it is mandatory.

Only problem I can see is if you only have one customer. Also not having any Finnish customers will mean that you won't collect VAT that you could offset in your company's purchases. I would be happy to see companies selling services abroad and paying their taxes in Finland.

Should rather use the term business. Sole traders are not companies when a requirement for a company is a separate legal entity.

True.

And to elaborate that one customer thing I said: Finnish officials have looked at businesses that only have one customer as way to dodge taxes and regulations. Dunno how applicable it is here, as the employer is abroad and using business and invoicing is surely the easiest way for op do your job and deal with the Finnish red tape.

Really informative response. I have several costumers. And a part of business includes exporting Finnish product to my country.

Do you know any one that I can check details before applying to Migri? Someone who can advise me in term of required documents and challenges?

I just recieve response from Migri about my question. It is not possible to receive residence just based on having business out of Finland. Since the work does not need residence in Finland.

Use an Oy instead and the application would be done as an employee.
