Also it could be worth checking out the Ellis Island archives, for fun if not for other reason.

I've found one distant relative in there... can't remember just now if you need to register in order to check out the digital scans.

On ancestry.com, I found a 1907 ship manifest for a Waino Juslen going to Ironwood Michigan. He is coming from Jalasjarvi. Born in Rymattyla.

He is listed as age 19. That means a birth year around 1888.

Does this sound like your Waino Juslen?

Ancestry.com also has a World War I record.
Name- Waino Edward Juslen
Born 1888 in Jalasjarvi, Finland. Region- Vaasa

I did not find any birth or marriage records on Hiski for Juslen as the records for Jalasjarvi don't cover the late 1800's.

Probably contraction of Jussila. Jussi is male's name and people tended to get their surnames from the houses they lived and houses got their names after the owner. Thus house where Jussi lived got named as Jussila. And then Jussilan Aino got shortened to Juslan Aino as Juslan was easier to pronounce.

Caveat, I did very cursory google searches when I got to that conclusion.

I suggest you go to Facebook and find a group called Finnish Genealogy. Post all the information you have about AIno Juslan, especially any dates you know, and the wonderful people in that group will dig out any available information.
