Look at the sentences below:
Toisella puolen järveä ei ole hiekkarantaa.
Meillä oli mänty, johon ruuhi sidotaan kun tullaan järven toiselle puolen.
(taken from "Kyllä meillä oli hauska" by Astrid Lindgren)
Why is puolen used, why not congruence?
Toisella puolella järveä ei ole hiekkarantaa.
Meillä oli mänty, johon ruuhi sidotaan kun tullaan järven toiselle puolelle.
Is there any difference between these two sets of sentences or does they mean the same?
The following is normal I think:
Viro on Suomen eteläpuolella. (RIGHT??)
and this is a big mistake (?????)
Viro on Suomen eteläpuolen. (WRONG!!)

Toisella puolen järveä

Re: Toisella puolen järveä
I think toisella/toiselle puolen is an old way of saying toisella/toiselle puolella/puolelle. That's what I understand after googling a bit.
Viro on Suomen eteläpuolen ..... I think you are trying here the same puolen -> puolella usage and it doesn't really seem to work here It lacks an object. E.g. Viro on Suomen eteläpuolen naapurimaa. However, I think 'Viro on Suomen toisella puolen/puolella' works.

Viro on Suomen eteläpuolen.
