Assuming we are in the same queue, how is it possible that I see advancement of 6 and you see 13 positions? Is it because I am in a different range than yours (mine is >8000)? Nevertheless, it doesn’t change the fact that I have a long wait aheadTUserFin wrote: ↑Tue Jan 16, 2024 10:49 amI'm in 490x-ish, it moved by 13 positions since yesterday.smo wrote: ↑Tue Jan 16, 2024 9:49 amI am at the very beginning of the whole process, and the wait is already very depressing. The queue just moved 6 people since yesterday. How is it even possible that only 6 applications were processed in whole Finland (I know there are other queues based on different application types), but still? Maybe I should just forget about the application and come back within 6 months, even 1 year later to check the progress![]()
btw, I found some information on other threads in this forum for previous years, someone made statistics based on people's feedback, and it looks like migri is processing more applications from different queue ranges every month. so next month can be 3000-4000 processing etc.

Because queue system is not accurate estimate. Some people says that queue does not matter, but I would say it matters to certain degree

Hi!
I was reading the topic while waiting for the decision. I can share my experience to statistics here:
1) Applied: 9.8.23 (4 years residence permit A)
2) Visited: 10.8.23 (queue 76**)
3) Stage 2: 11.1.24 (queue 55**)
4) Decision: 16.1.24
Also, my husband applied for citizenship later, in the middle of December 23 (queue 85**). So, we both got decisions at the same time.
I hope you all get the + decision soon!

Re: Applying for Citizenship 2024
I applied in January 2023 and it's already a year of waiting. My status is still at the first step "Waiting for processing" and today my queue number is 3492. All of the people I know who applied at the same time or a few months after me already got their decisions. I emailed to Migri and was told to wait for 21 months
I'm not sure why it is the case for me to wait 21 months or if it is the max processing time.

It’s so frustrating watching everyone else get their decisions after a few months and not knowing why some like ours are taking so long.
I had a chat with one of my Finnish friends about these queues and his relative works for gov org. He told me that it looks similar to how this works for his relative. They have incoming requests from Finnish people, and they randomly divide them between queues. After that they handle request from first queue, second, etc. I think migri does the same. They have 3 queues (first, second, thrid), and they put into incoming applications into those. After that they switch to handle first month application from first queue (even if there are fresh applications), second month from second, etc. The only thing is not clear if migri divides between queues randomly or somehow else. One thing, reading forum, looks like clear, that if we take current waiting period 6-21 months, people who got into first queue will wait around 6 months, others will wait something like 10-15 motnhs, and lesss fortunate will wait 16-21 months.

Re: Applying for Citizenship 2024
Migri have stated on their website that family applications are treated together (even if they do not apply at the same time). So this is to be expected. It also explains why somebody else's queue position can get worse from one day to the next. Once the wife moved to stage 2 the husband's application would have jumped the queue to also be at stage 2, so pushing everyone after that one place down.jokulalala wrote: ↑Fri Jan 19, 2024 10:11 amBut then it takes your husband nearly 1 month to get the decision?

Let's hope they return to the 4k-5k level soon. However, it seems unlikely, as in 2023, Migri received the highest number of citizenship applications, surpassing 17k. This trend is expected to continue in 2024 at a similar level. The surge began in June 2023 when the news of a new citizenship proposal emerged.
To maintain the average processing time of 6-22 months, Migri might plans to quickly process the easiest and straightforward applications. This approach will help them to keep the average queue steady or allow it to slowly increase.
I've observed that they are still processing a few applications within the 4200-4900 range, approximately 4-5 per day. My application is at 4850+, and if I don't receive a response before 4500, it might be in the next year, 2025.

So, most probably, this works like this. Migri has three queues. Depending which months it is (actually, looks like they process every queue in 3 months cycles) and depending which queue you are in.... Anyone has 33.33% (100/3) chance to get processed quickly, if they get into queue which is processed right now (i.e. they get into a queue which is in current cycle)
6-10 months - current cycle, we missed this, most probably
11-15 months - We still have a chance
16-21 months - We have a chance
I would say we still have 50% probability to be processed within 11-15 months.

Thanks for your explanation. I am a little confused about the range that you were talking about. when you said migri is still processing a few applications within the 4200-4900 range, what this range refer to? does it refer to the queue position or to the first four digits of diary number (xxxx/xxx/xxxx)?Guess.who wrote: ↑Fri Jan 19, 2024 1:52 pmTUserFin wrote: ↑Fri Jan 19, 2024 9:53 amScotabroad wrote: ↑Fri Jan 19, 2024 1:10 amI am the same, applied January 2023 and my queue number is currently 35xx and moving very slowlyThe current processing time estimate is 6-21 months, so they probably just mean that you should wait until the 21 months is up before questioning them. My diary number is 64XX/310/2023 and my current queue position is 4578. I visited migir exactly 7 months ago (on 19.06.2023) and still nothing has happened. I know four people that visited migri the same time as me and all of them had their decision after 4 and 5 months. I also think that my application is as clear and straightforward as their applications but I don't know why migir skipped or still not processed my application

Re: Applying for Citizenship 2024
The queue doesn't refer to the dairy number. The queue number is approximate to show where you are compared to others. Most probably, you were assigned to a longer queue, the same as me. Many people believe that if you have a traffic fine, you use KELA or didn't live 15 years in Finland, or you are from not underrepresented country (i.e. country citizens of which do not apply for many applications in Finland), or your spouse is not Finish... you will be in a long queue.... I was reading and laughing on this, because, I have lived 8+ years in Finland, never used KELA, have a stable income above 90% of Finns, never had a traffic fine, I'm from an underrepresented country from Europe (my country gets around 200 citizenships per year), and my spouse and child are Finnish.... yet I was not given citizenship in 5 months and now waiting longer.... because the process with queues assignment is most probably randomsamsoski wrote: ↑Fri Jan 19, 2024 2:40 pmThanks for your explanation.
