Good luck to you guys! It was a long wait for me but I suspected it from the beginning with the very angry officer in Migri accepting my application.

congrats! it seemed like a complicated process though! what is the SUPO interview?ukkonen2024 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 19, 2024 10:33 amFinally, I can share my happy news!
I applied for Finnish citizenship in April 2022 and today I received a positive decision. I am gonna share my experience in case it could help someone.
My story is that I came as a student in 2016 and started working full-time in 2018. Have never been unemployed or received Kela support. My partner is Finnish.
When I was visiting Migri during the application the person before me really put the officer in a bad mood (he was screaming at her). I was worried that she would be angry with me because of that (which is a speculation of course) and she was... So I suspected I was in the longest line because of that.
I applied to the Lappeenranta office and received an invitation for a SUPO interview. I had COVID at the time so we had to reschedule for June 2022. The interview went well but I was very nervous if I understood everything correctly in Finnish. The questions were very general and overall were concerning e.g., the news I read. It went well and I somehow was confident based on the questions that there was nothing to worry about.
After some time, I needed to update my residence permit. I went to Migri to apply for a permanent permit. The officer was straight away telling me to wait as my citizenship application was very good and I would receive citizenship in no time. Haha, well I had to insist and I applied and received a permanent permit about a year ago.
I sent two emails to Migri in the autumn of 2023 and the winter of 2024. Those were not angry but more requesting an estimate on when my application may be processed. The first email was very general but the second time when I emailed Migri they mentioned that my officer is currently processing March 2022 and I need to wait for a couple of months. And that is what happened. My processing started this January. They never asked anything but I uploaded all my new trips and the work contract. I received a decision today with queue number 1,366.

Very encouraging, since I applied in August 2022. We're getting there slowly...

When in January did your application go to processing?
I wonder why did it take 22 months when the max time that they give is 21 months?
I have a feeling that we all who is in this "long queue" are in the same queue essentially. It has been really long time when I saw someone got their decision after 8 months but before 21months.

Re: Applying for Citizenship 2024
Well, SUPO is the Finnish Security and Intelligence Service. As I was told they sometimes do additional interviews as well and issue their statement. For me, it was more like they were checking I am who I am (e.g., my background) similar to Migri interview but they were asking extra questions e.g., about my integration in Finland. Nothing scary really, just in Finnish.applicant2024 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 19, 2024 1:04 pmcongrats! it seemed like a complicated process though! what is the SUPO interview?ukkonen2024 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 19, 2024 10:33 amFinally, I can share my happy news!

During the third week. Well hard to say, they told me about the backlog but I am happy it did not take longer than that.broccoli wrote: ↑Mon Feb 19, 2024 2:55 pmCongrats!!ukkonen2024 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 19, 2024 10:33 amMy processing started this January. Re: Applying for Citizenship 2024
So after living in FInland for over 20years (since December 2021) with no significant interruptions (just normal year vacation to my home country, usually 2-3 weeks long, only twice in these 20 years have I stayed there for a month), I have decided to apply for Finnish citizenship.
Reason for coming: married a Finn, came with non EU passport and residence permit, then my second citizenships country (I have 2 citizenships) joined the EU and my resident permit automatically got converted to permanent permit and entry as EU citizen.
Applied mid December 2023, had my Migri visit today. Had a laugh at the Malmi migri office as they called out the person before me with an obvious foreign name and last name on the speaker (we both had a booked appointmentI) in English and Finnish so I thought great I wont have to think much about numbers in Finnish on a Monday early morning..then they call out me..I have a typical Finnish last name (through hubby) and a very typical Finnish first name (as its the same in my country)..so they call me out - in Finnish and Swedish!!
Woman was nice, had a little chit chat..I asked how long does it take, she says their processing time now is 2 years (
I hope itll be faster
) but as Im an EU citizen and seem to have an easier case (not too much travelling so they would need to do more extensive research) should take shorter.
I hope this will be the case as last time when I applied for my first permit in the embassy, they told me 3-6 months, but more likely 6 months, only to be called in the evening by an excited Finnish embassy clerk who told me to get ready, I got my visa. Wasnt overjoyed as had a great job and was planning on doing some more work and saving up for the next 6 months...delayed my move for 2 more months.
Who knows, maybe it comes on my birthday in August.

Re: Applying for Citizenship 2024
Hi
I am wondering is the officers who interview and receive the citizenship application the one who investigate and make the decision? or the application will be referred to another dedicated officer?

Thanks for sharing, I wonder if 2 years (24 months) is a new estimate from migri. Did you come to Finland with residence permit or applied here?aurinkokukka wrote: ↑Mon Feb 19, 2024 3:24 pmSo after living in FInland for over 20years (since December 2021) with no significant interruptions (just normal year vacation to my home country, usually 2-3 weeks long, only twice in these 20 years have I stayed there for a month), I have decided to apply for Finnish citizenship.

Re: Applying for Citizenship 2024
Definetely no, not same person. To my knowledge all citezenship applications are processed in Helsinki
Re: Applying for Citizenship 2024
I have a very British/American sounding first and last name and for my citizenship application they called out my name and number in Finnish+Swedish. I think for citizenship they deliberately only use Finnish/Swedish in the loudspeaker announcement. This did not stop me asking the woman to explain one of her questions in English though.aurinkokukka wrote: ↑Mon Feb 19, 2024 3:24 pmthey called out the person before me with an obvious foreign name and last name on the speaker in English and Finnish so I thought great I wont have to think much about numbers in Finnish on a Monday early morning..then they call out me..I have a typical Finnish last name (through hubby) and a very typical Finnish first name (as its the same in my country)..so they call me out - in Finnish and Swedish!!

Re: Applying for Citizenship 2024
I got the temporary residence permit (for 1 year( at the Finnish embassy in my home country, then applied for my next one in Helsinki before the old expired but then got the EU citizenship (through my mom, I didnt know I have the right to it, but it turned out I already had it, just had to submit my birth certificate) so I got the permanent resident permit based on the EU citzenship.TUserFin wrote: ↑Mon Feb 19, 2024 7:22 pmThanks for sharing, I wonder if 2 years (24 months) is a new estimate from migri.
