OUTBACK AUSTRALIAN BAR, Helsinki Finland

Post by aussie13 » Wed Aug 24, 2005 2:24 pm

Hey everyone!
New Aussie in Finland, wondering what everyone here thinks of this Outback Aussie bar in town. wandered in there the other day (couldnt MISS it with the big yellow Kangaroo) and had a few quiet Cooper's. what does anyone know about this place? service, staff, jobs etc? they all seemed pretty laid back to me which is exactly what i wanted!!! Do they give any competition to the infamous Molly Malones over the road from them?
maybe im being too patriotic, just wanting to suss out some good spots for me to become a local in!
hope anyone and everyone can give me a low down on the place!!
cheers!!

I don't understand this post.

The writer has BEEN there. What more information do you need than what you saw with your own eyes?

Then again, it's a nice advert for the bar, having its own thread and all, and here I am adding to the number of posts on it. Go figure.

But come clean, eh? This is a shill. You are just drumming up business for the place.

NOBODY could be that hopeless (no, not even here) that they want advice and encouragement on using a bar they have already TRIED!

Dude, like, what was the giveaway - the title of the bar in caps AND the location in the subject header...or that it is a first time poster who just joined....er...today? :)

I haven't been in, but from what I've been told "quiet" is not how one would describe Outback.

I nearly went in for a quick half, but 3 Euros entry was a bit stiff (I only had 20 minutes)

Stay on here a couple of years more and you'll give everyone the benefit of the doubt - we've seen dozens of more idiotic "can you help me?" postings than this, even if this one did look like a dead-ringer for a cheap advertising shot. :)

They CHARGE ADMISSION? Forget it.

anteeksi?

Post by aussie13 » Thu Aug 25, 2005 3:17 am

ok well sorry about the whole writing in caps thing! like you said, this is my first post and i just joined today so i didnt really know about the right or wrong things to do! writing in caps simply got everyones attention which is what i wanted..

Yep i admit i have been into the bar, i wasnt denying that! but i havent found out anything about the place and was hoping for some more local knowledge! the bar staff seemed ok, the beers relatively priced etc but i didnt really find out anything! how long has it been there, who owns it, why is there silly aussie slang all over the friggin walls, does anyone on this post actually drink there etc etc!

i want to find a bar to call my "local" and i thought being an aussie at a aussie bar would be good, but wouldnt mind knowing more about it from outsiders rather than biased bar staff!

apologies again. i wont use caps any more
cheers
:)

Its new, its fake, its going to disappear in a year or two when/if the owners of the complex think a gay bar would fit there better... meanwhile enjoy it.

BTW it isn't the first one. There used to be one that fell in the recession with a serious interior - corrugated tin and a few land rovers, first one to have crocodile and emu on the menu.
Cheers, Hank W.

So did you eat the crocodile or the emu?

Do I look like I was rich in 1990... ;) "eating out" was a rare treat consisting of pizza at its finest. Only drank beer there. I saved one of their ... whatever you call the paper you put under the plate, like the ads on the tray in McD... it pops up every now and then when I move.

Come into the bar, talk to me (Rowena) Pete (bar man), or Bejay (manager) and find out what it's like.

Rowena
A regular on quiet nights
BTW it's just a bar. The people make it a nice place but you get out what you put in you know... You can just drink there, or you can make friends there, but you have to go there to do it, not analyse it on a message board!

Also 3 euro cover charge is dropped most nights now, unless there is a live band, I believe.

PS come along Sep 4th to my moving party and meet half the bar / regulars. I'm unashamedly promoting that!

well it sounds like one person on this message board is not too quick to jump down someones throat, thanks rowena! and you say youre leaving?

i went in again today and spoke to the manager, the blonde guy, he seemed like a pretty laid back guy! but only he was working so i didnt get to meet the other bar person you mentioned. i hope hes as normal as the manager.

it does seem a little funky for an aussie bar doesnt it? lots of funny writing on the walls, but the people inside at the time seemed to make it good. and i havent had a beer at 3.50 anywhere else in helsinki so that was one thing i was happy about.

might run into some ppl in there maybe, i think i wouldnt mind becoming a regular!

oh yeah rowena, being a female you can give me your perspective. what the women like in there? they friendly young and gorgeous? and the cocktails? if i buy them for the girls, are they as cheesy as they sound? lol

Ha ha

The women in there are few and far between! I mean weekend nights and late nights you get a dancey crowd but if I am ever there then I am way too out of it to notice! Most of the girls are foreign. We all like cocktails. You can buy me one called "Pete's Creamy Stuff" It's not on the menu!!!

Bejay is the blonde guy, he's actually a kiwi but we humour him. The writing on the wall is to cover the American stuff - my mum sent all the postcards that's why they're mostly of Perth (er no she didn't actually write all of them)

There is a big rugby weekend, on tv and also I think Warriors vs Helsinki (I stress I think) so there will be a lot of people to meet out on Saturday.

Roskipankki and other Kallio pubs do "pints" for two euro. Good for a big night of oblivion.

Enjoy

petes creamy stuff? LOL! sounds somewhat UN inviting!

yeah he told me he was a kiwi, poor man. the rugby day is on today i think but i have just woken so im afraid i may have missed it! but i might go in and see if theyre showing the ashes cricket!

thanks again.
PS: im guessing petes creamy stuff comes from pete the bartender? is it WISE for me to ask for it though? apparently hes better then the other two guys working there a few girls have told me, so its gunna be a showdown! :) can i compete?
