Its worse this year too. As Nelonen has stopped showing tuesday night Champions league games. Canal Digital shows the premiership, I think its about €30 a month at the moment for the football package, and they have a deal at present, free Dish and Digibox rental for a year. Last year was OK because they showed every World Cup game, next year will probably be the same with Euro 2004. But England, Scotland, Ireland, Northern Ireland qualifiers, no chance

BLimey what a result from Inter. I thought the gooners might give them a run for their money...not a chance. Looks like itll be the usual suspects come April/May. As you can guess I dont like MU but I would like to see them do well in the CL but I think they are going to struggle this year as I dont think they have the depth this year.

Predictions

Inter
AC
RM
and poss Juve/BM/an other

The ManUre correspondent seems to be leaping to a few rather premature conclusions, but it is nice to see there are the same mad doomwatchers in every club.

Where do they GO when Forlan scores a brace, or Heskey (bless his little pointed head) whacks a hat-trick (yes, I know it's unlikely), or some poor benighted (and now decapitated) "couldn't catch a cold in the head" keeper stops two penalties and saves fearlessly at Lee Bowyer's feet?
Wa-Hey... Emil's hotter than a peppered sprout. OK, OK, it wasn't a hat-trick, but great oaks from little acorns... :)

And Mikael... may the forsse be with you!

So Olly, what's the prediction for tomorrow. I going for a 0-0 draw as it helps my Fantasy League team. If not, then 1-0 to Arsenal (Henry) :D

I've got a question. Finnish news media have been reporting that a 2002/03 Premiership All-Star XI was announced on the 15th, with Hyypiä in it. For the record, the other names were:

Brad Friedel Blackburn, Steve Finnan Fulham, Sol Campbell Arsenal, Sami Hyypiä Liverpool, Ashley Cole Arsenal, Ryan Giggs Manchester United, Paul Scholes Manchester United, Patrick Vieira Arsenal, David Beckham Manchester United, Thierry Henry Arsenal, Ruud van Nistelrooy Manchester United.

Now this is all very well (though a tad late to my mind), but I cannot find ANYTHING in English about this story. And, for certain reasons, I need to. Anyone actually heard this from a UK source?

I think I've gone through the usual search engine approaches, but come up dry - except for Sonera Plaza and sportti.com, both of which are "local". Wha's goin' on?

Here's what HS had to say a few days back.

Sami Hyypiä valioliigan tähdistöön

jalkapalloilu

Lontoo.

Sami Hyypiä on valittu jalkapallon Englannin valioliigan kauden 2002-2003 tähdistöjoukkueeseen.

Valioliigan virallisen tähdistöjoukkueen valitsi liigan asettama asiantuntijaraati.

Hyypiä oli ainoa Liverpoolin pelaaja, joka joukkueeseen valittiin.

Manchester Unitedin hyökkääjä

Ruud van Nistelrooy valittiin lisäksi valioliigan vuoden pelaajaksi.

Englannin valioliigan kauden 2002-03 tähdistöjoukkue: Brad Friedel Blackburn, Steve Finnan Fulham, Sol Campbell Arsenal, Sami Hyypiä Liverpool, Ashley Cole Arsenal, Ryan Giggs Manchester United, Paul Scholes Manchester United, Patrick Vieira Arsenal, David Beckham Manchester United, Thierry Henry Arsenal, Ruud van Nistelrooy Manchester United.

They attributed it to STT - the Finnish News Agency. It suggests the list was put together by an outside "panel of experts", rather than the PFA.

6 - 1 again if we can be arsed

Seriously, no idea, can't predict these, could be a tough draw, a humiliating defeat or a hammering.

Can't find anything about that either WLM, I'll keep my eye out though.

Yesterday was the first day at the FIFA Women`s World Cup. No Finnish team takes part, the English speaking world is represented by the teams of Australia, Canada and the USA.

"On the final day of summer in Philadelphia and Columbus, Norway, Korea DPR, Germany and Japan put on terrific winning displays to warm the hearts of their legions of admirers across the globe." http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/03/en/030921/1/8ky.html

Yep my moneys on the USA, as they seem to be streets ahead of everyone else and the competition is being hosted there.

Even though Womens football seems to have problems there.

I was surprised England weren't involved. I'll have to take a look at the qualifying procedure for this competition.

Ah this explains it. England finished 2nd in their qualifying group, and had to play a play off against France and got beat :?

Finland didn't make it out of their qualifying group unfortunately.

Earthy chuckle... "Will there be shirt-swapping?"

I noticed Mrs Ronaldo is in it. Can she play better than that thin bint can sing?

Norway are rather good. I think they used their oil money to advance cloning and have a team of eleven Trine Hattenstads on the pitch.

The English would have qualified, but went binge-drinking on the night before their big game against Faliraki Reserves, and could only put out a team of one - their star teetotalist midfielder Donna Touchit.

Hmm.. looks like she isn't quite up to snuff, but has the celeb credentials they need. Brazilian women's soccer appears to be in an equally parlous state to that in the US. Keepie-uppies? Aren't they some sort of undergarment?

Ah well, having emptied the compost, I guess I'm well prepared to put my feet up, crack open a Young's Special and watch Manure and the Arse on Canal Plus. Great life if you don't weaken.
