Trouble is, I pick and choose my cases with a view to improving the system, not necessarily helping the individual. Ideally, you get both results, but sometimes it takes so long that the individual gets little comfort from it.

Just last week the Supreme Administrative Court upheld an appeal against deportation that I drafted on behalf of a UK citizen 15 months ago. The deportation order was issued three years ago, and even this was nearly three years after the police originally declined to extend the appellant's "registration". In other words, this matter took six years to resolve. A nice victory of principle (priority of Community Law over the Aliens Act), but little comfort to the poor sod concerned.

Hello again Daryl. In your paragraph:

"None of this prevents an applicant from a country like the USA from then travelling to Finland, entering under visa exemption arrangements, and then filing another application of the same kind in Finland. If the applicant then secures a concrete job offer, this fact can be added to the grounds for the second application."

What exactly does "visa exemption arrangements" mean? I already have my girlfriend sending me a letter that she's written about the wish for me to be with her...

Thanks,

LBL

A tourist from the USA can enter the Schengen area for 90 days - same thing as a Finn can come to the USA on the "visa waiver" - with certain protocols and assumptions..

Oh, thank you Hank. Another question is whether or not my girlfriend should send this letter to me to send or the Finnish embassy here in NY, AND if she should write it in Finnish, English, or it doesn't matter? (jeesh, maybe I'm getting a little neurotic about all of this)

Thanks

LBL :?
