Cricket

Post by ishrateram » Thu Apr 13, 2006 11:19 pm

Since the summer is not too far away (hopefully!!), cricket season will be in full swing here. If anyone is interested in Helsinki then please visit http://www.skkcricket.com for more details and contacts. SKK promises long matches (45 overs on the weekends) and short matches (20-20 during weekdays). If you are interesting only in training and honing your skills, you are welcome as well. Age, sex, nationality etc. no barrier.

..I was (pleasantly) surprised to be sitting behind a team on the plane wearing blue tracksuits with 'Finland Cricket' written across the back...

I reckon there's more chance that I'll get a few games in Finland than I had here in UK...and I don't imagine you have to deal with local 'hoodies' using your sight screen as fire wood either

Never played cricket before but would really like to have a go. Any room for players with no experience but alot of enthusiasm?
Oh, God, God, God! What on earth was I drinking last night? My head feels like there's a Frenchman living in it.

ishrateram,

unfrotunately my weekends are out due to prior commintments, but i really love to play cricket and got quite exctied when i read what you wrote about midweek 20-20 cricket! Is there any chance of getting to play the midweek stuff only, or will it be just for the guys who commit to the weekend stuff also.

I have played 20-20 midweek back home, twilight cricket we call it, and it is a lot of fun, let me know if you guys are looking for players such as myself.

cheers,
jc

You guys are most welcome. SKK will be playing at least 10 matches of 20-20 and lots of friendlies, so I suppose there would be an opening in the team.

FYI, there apparently used to be a team in Lahti...

Also, a guy from Lahti was playing for Turku the past few years, and we also had one guy from Lahti playing for Tampere CC 2-3 years ago.

Maybe you could start up something there again ?

Otherwise, welcome on up to Tampere CC. :-)

FYI, if you mean recently, the young lads with the "Cricket Finland" jackets on were probably going to, or coming from the European (Youth) Indoor Championships at Lord's, London... where they finished in 6th place... not bad at all for a first time outing. :-)

Last year I saw some nice bats at Al-Malik Shop, maybe you can find one there. The shop is located in Hakaniemi opposite to Maharaja Oriental store.
