Nice little earners

Post by simon » Mon May 22, 2006 10:33 am

Thought this might be of interest, allways makes me smile when people think that players leave Prem to get big money

Player Club Weekly wages

Michael Ballack, Chelsea (£121,000)

Thierry Henry, Arsenal (£112,000)

Ronaldinho, Barcelona (£111,000)

Sol Campbell, Arsenal (£100,000)

Rio Ferdinand, Man Utd (£94,000)

Frank Lampard, Chelsea (£94,000)

Steven Gerrard, Liverpool (£87,500)

David Beckham, Real Madrid (£84,600)

Ronaldo, Real Madrid (£84,600)

Zinedine Zidane, Real Madrid (£84,600)

Raul, Real Madrid (£84,600)

R van Nistelrooy, Man Utd (£84,600)

Oliver Kahn, B Munich (£76,900)

John Terry, Chelsea (£76,900)

Harry Kewell, Liverpool (£75,000)

Francesco Totti, Roma (£73,000)

Note that this does not include sponsership money which if did you could proably add an extra 25% on top for some of these totals.

For a number of players that you mention, sponsorship represents way more than 25% extra on income.

Goldenballs Beckham's basic is about £4M p.a. IIRC he makes way more than that in sponsorship... is it Adidas? Boot deal, Police Sunglasses, Pepsi etc. etc.

I read that on his old contract, Duncan Ferguson's income for his image rights were equal to his £40k/week salary, IMHO it was one of the reasons Rooney went to Utd. he could get far better sponsorship deals as a Utd player than with Everton.

Bit of a shock to see the screw Harry Kewell is on. But then again, Litti was getting a real good whack at Anfield, especially for a "luxury player". But Litmanen was on a free coming from a rich club like Barca, while Kewell was on a dodgy £5m transfer from Leeds, so it's a bit hard to see that his wages would have been a Leeds United "poisoned chalice" for LFC.

Anyone know any more on this?

Oh, and Harry has been playing better of late, but maybe not THAT well.

As a sidenote, did you guys see that French documentary on British football hooligans on the telly last week? It was fun to watch with my Brummie guest - he was appalled and I was: "now you know why nobody sits besides you in the bus after hearing your accent"
Cheers, Hank W.

But what shall it profit a people if they satisfy all material desires, but leave for their children nothing, only a wasteland.
