Would you like to meet Finnish friends?

Where to buy? Where can I find? How do I? Getting started.

YEP, I guess that it depends on the type of job, I am working at university but somehow the finns are quite distant... well, I manage quite well with foreigners in finland, and unfortunately, football is not my thing ;)

I think that finnish people like to have foreign friends. The problem is that there is little bit cultural differences. Finnish people not maybe talk so much and that is why you can intepretate them wrongly. Finnish people are quite shy also.

Of course it is not so easy to get friends here, but if you get, you can count on them.

Usually I see lonely foreign guy in bar trying to find a girl. That might be little difficult way to get friends.

I think that you can get friends here in Finland if you just go and discuss with people. It is harder to go in big group and starting to speak english with finnish people. You should go to talk to a single person, and that is how it can start. Getting friends may need little bit work here.

I have discussed with many of foreign people here in Helsinki and it is not a problem to me. Of course there is different kind of people and you can not be friend with everybody.

I wish good luck for everybody to trying to find friends.

...I met quite a few folks in Finland during my several stays there with my now fiancee, and even with those whose English was not perfect, I have managed to make some good friends with whom we can share good times and good talks -- at least with those who put their hearts in front of their tongues.

I think that, if folks stopped putting the different culture thing in front of a potential friendship, then they'll be amazed to find that Finns can be a good bunch to have as friends. I think the whole not talking thing is overated. Sure, it's there, but it's not absolute. I've met quiet Finns as well as ones who talk their butts off. Sounds like a number of foreigners to me.

I don't care if you like eating cucumbers for breakfast; I don't care if you don't know who (insert your homeland's biggest celebrity's name) is; I could go on and on. And, so far, the friends I have made in Finland don't really care about theirs and my differences. Not that drastic.

Heij!

I'm a young and bright person, who will stay in Finland (Helsinki) for a year.
Now the first month is over and I'm at a loss. It's really great being here, I like the city ( wheras the weather could be better :) ) but I absolutely know no one- except the family I live with. It's so difficult for me to find some friends spending time and having some fun with, because I don't know where to go to find people...and I don't think that metro and shopping malls are the right places for getting in contact with them. :?

I just love to talk and discuss and go out with people, but in an foreign country with a foreign language it is not so easy and of course I'm more reserved than I would be in my home country. (what isn't very advantageous...I know)

So I hope someone here is interested (or has pity on me ;) ) and want to get in contact with me.
I'd really really really appreciate that.

(uuh, writing english is much more difficult for me than speaking, so I beg for ignoring my bad diction ;) )

Meet Finns in the Sauna

For those who do not want to visit pubs or do not find any other proper places to make new friends, the public saunas may be worth visiting. Sauna is the place where people go to and forget their rank and troubles. It is a place where people sit on the bench next to each other so it is easier to talk there than else where.

Perhaps we could arrange a sauna meeting. Those of you who think it is a good idea please contact and let's make further planning. The winter is dark and long(used to be cold too) so the sauna evening migh bring some light. Let me hear your opinion!!

Are you talking about the clubs and societies which I mentioned ? If you are, you could send your question to the clubs and societies you are interested in.

If you are interested in the Red Cross Friendship Agency in Helsinki send your question to them !

You can join this meetup group and meet the members after your arrival in Helsinki :
http://friends.meetup.com/cities/fi/helsinki/

More Helsinki groups here : http://www.meetup.com/cities/fi/helsinki

Are you planning to move to Helsinki or are you talking about visiting Helsinki as a tourist ?
