Think of taking the kids to Estonia next weekend.... we are looking for some kind of family hotel, spa whatever, decent food, pool, so mum, dad and the boys can just relax, read some books and basically DO NOTHING. We are taking the car so can be outside Tallinn (but not too far so we can still do some shopping). Any recommendations?

I picked up a "Tallinn This Week" when I was there last weekend. I'd be willing it give it to you if you want to meet.

Thanks Karen.
But we have a problem.... no room for car on the ferries! All is loppu.
So we will either do a day trip on foot ot forget the whole thing. And, looks like I've got to work on Friday anyway

so the kids will have to make do with a syysloma at the mökki instead.

....and optician..... aha! as in kill two birds with one stone. New specs were on my shopping list!
Thanks.... have you been there yourself? Is it child friendly (as in not too many Finnish drunks crawling around)?

No, but a friend has a couple of times. Husband was jogging around in the forest, and she took all imaginable treatments. I don´t think drunks prefer a spa 10 kilometres away from principal watering holes.

Btw. how is travelling in Estonia if person has a residence permit in Finland? IIRC Estonia is not yet in Shengen agreement, but I may remember it wrong.

I'm a permanent resident and I've never had a problem going to Estonia. I think a tourist visa could be a problem.

Going to Estonia (Talinna) wasn't a problem for me back in '95 on a tourist visa, but that was before EU, so ymmv now. I do remember having to wait in a horrid line for non-Finnish passport holders (mine was U.S.) on the way back, though. I hope that will change by the next time I go (getting Finnish citizenship by application this year, I hope).
