Yes, my understanding is that this is an EU ruling, allbeit a fairly recent one. So if you already had your kids on your passport before the rules changed then it's OK but as soon as you try to renew them you will have to get separate ones.

I had a problem as I did not take my husband's surname, but my kids did. Once when travelling to Jo'burg on my own with my 3 lads the airline failed to allocate us seats together (.... 8) !!!) I was more than happy to leave my kids (all under 5 yrs) scattered around the aircraft.... but it took about 30 mins for Air France to reorganise the seating

Anyway, it worried me that I was not able to prove the kids belonged to me.... so I had a notice printed in my passport saying that.... the holder is the wife of XXXX That doesn't really prove anything either but it has enabled me to get registered letters at the Post Office. I also have my French livret de famille which has all our details, but I don't usually carry it around as it has no official status outside of France.

I had my baby added to my German passport only two months ago, so I guess it depends on your home country whether you can add your children to your own passport, and Germany is definitely EU.

Some other information to consider: If you want to take your baby to Estonia you need a picture-ID! (Yes, EU members as well.)

Therefore, my hubby (Finnish) and I (German) went for the following: Baby on my German passport in case I travel alone with her plus her own Finnish passport in case we need a picture-ID.

Edit: It seems my information was only partially true! So, this comes from the Estonian Embassy: only children 7 years and older need picture IDs.

Something else we just found out: Don't just apply for a henkilökortti (identity card) for your baby assuming it is the same as for adults. What you will get is an identity card for minor's, which is not a valid travel document. You need to specify that you want travel documents when you are applying, or you spend 40 Euros in vain

Just wanted to update this thread.

We had a Finnish passport made for our baby recently and here's what you'd need.

1. One black and white passport sized photo of baby.
2. BOTH parents AND baby must be present at the police station to fill in and sign the necessary documents. (The lady even came out from her glass booth to take a peek at baby to make sure that the photo given matched the baby present!)
3. Bring along your own passports.
4. Bring along baby's KELA card.
5. Biometric passports valid for maximum 5 years
6. Ready in one week
7. Cost - 46 euros
8. Baby's passport is not allowed to be tagged to either parent.

(Forms are not given out to be filled in at home. Everything has to be done at the police station. Not much paperwork at all actualy.)

Speedy, efficient and easy.

OK, Baby now ready to see the world! :sun:

Passport photos?

Post by Wheely » Mon Oct 30, 2006 8:19 pm

Hellou!

Would anyone know whether a baby needs this "perfect picture" for the new biometric passports. And if babies need the new photos too then would anyone know a good photographer for baby passport pictures?
