Can I get residency in this situation?

Post by sarahh » Tue Jan 30, 2007 4:05 am

Hi All,

I just discovered you today! I'm so happy!

I am going to take early retirement in about 4 years time, and want to move to Finland then to be with my boyfriend/partner (a Finn). I won't be trying to work in Finland. Can I get a residency permit, if I am not married to my partner, nor have any official Co-habitant (or whatever it's called) status? I've looked at a bunch of websites, but can't find the right info.

One little snaggle is that my boyfriend, is an official resident of Seattle and has a business based there, but spends most of his time in Finland now.

thanks,

Sarahh

Residency

I'm not sure whether there are special concessions to citizens of the US, but the normal rule with relationships is you either have to have lived together for at least 2 years, or married. Someone correct me if I'm wrong...

You mean your BF is not a resident of Finland?

Residence permits are issued in general for
1- study
2- work
3- "family ties"
All with a number of conditions to be met.

Your situation doesn't look promising to me :?
