Hey All...
We could argue who has the best and worst of everything...Finland will have somethings better and Australia will have others.
I, hate to say it, work for the gov't in health admin...there are good doctors and there are bad doctors...no matter what country you are in. We have great docs like the last Australian of the year who specialises in burns recovery and then we have Dr Patel...
My wife can't get her allergy medicine here in australia but there are ways around it.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that no one place is better than the other, you just have to live with it...if you can't...you go back to where you can
As they say when in Rome....do as the romans.
Mike.

my old man has smoked for over 40 years... about 5 years ago he decided it was time to get his lungs and heart tested... he was told his lungs are all clear..... and this is here in oz... take of that what you will!!Pavlor wrote:I love doctors here! I was told that I am allergic to water by one doctor and that my lungs are ihan puhtaita even though I have smoked over a million cigarettes in my life... Hardly cutting edge diagnoses by anyone's standards...

ok... ciggie break

not a truer word spoken... any other view is plainly one eyed.

I plan on holidaying in Finland, hopefully, late this year and then making a decision on whether I would like to move for a more permanent arrangement..
Definitely need to be learning the language, I know words, but not how to use them etc ;(
I wonder if there would be lessons somewhere in Perth..
Anyone know? :/

Kiwi in Oz moving to Suomi
Hey Im a kiwi living in Brisbane looking at spending some time with my girlfriend in Oulu next year. I just got back to Brisbane last week from a holiday over there, and am going through poro (reindeer meat) withdrawals already. Has anyone else fallen in love with the sweet sweet taste of roast Rudolph?
When I first got home, I found some (I was shocked!) at some obscure butcher. Its long gone though
I think you could check out a local 'game meat' seller though... they usually have the more unusual meats. You could also ask from the Scandinavian Bakery at Springwood. If there is a place selling it - they will know (or help you find an alternative to get you through the addiction)

Hahaha Mirrabooka!! Hahaha, I think my Dad lived around there when he was a kid
Where abouts in Perth were you from? :O
I owned a house in Balga ( 1 suburb away from mirrabooka) some years ago and then sold it and moved to York (2hrs east from Perth) before coming here (Funland) 2 years ago.
I will be coming back to Perth in 2 months time for my annual pilgrimage to see my family who are still all over the norther suburbs.

Hi MarkMark I. wrote:Onegammyleg, you should be more detailed and elaborate in bashing the Finnish system. Othervise, some reader might think you have some emotional outburst going on, little to do with real comparative analysis.
Nahh , Finland is a great place , and definitely one of the best countries in the world with many great points.
Australia is also a good place , also with many great points.
A comparison between the two ,,in my opinion , is hard to judge , they are entirely different places and totally different life styles.
My reason for answering that last question passionately is that my medical problems were and are a life or death matter., and for a doctor , err , I mean a specialist in the top of his field , in a modern country (Finland isnt Africa) to be so out of the loop it is worrying.
I have found more information about my bone tumor publicly available on the internet than what this Finnish specialist knew.
Thats hardly confidence inspiring.

Australian Planning to Move to Finland...
Hi Mike!
You are welcome to join us at the Finnish Club at Mt Gravatt every second Saturday morning for Finnish classes for adults. Next class is 3rd March.
Or you can do a course through IML at UQ, which starts 12th March. This is a 11 week short course which will/can be extended further if there are enough willing students.
