Hi,

I think I did not make my point clearn enough or I wrote it too hastily.

I did not mean "give milk" per se but that if you give something then give it in the most natural form.

Skimmed milk does have a higher calcium content but it does not mean that it is better than other things. I would also like to point out that I have not drank milk myself and I have excellent bone density and that there is a lot of genetics behind the whole bone-business anyway.

Sorry about this confusion.

M

Hi,

it is nice to read so many reasonable contributions here.
Many of the recommendations concerning food are just not based on a scientific analysis. If one considers recommendations concernig milk, vitamins, salt, fat etc one should always keep in mind that lobbying is a big buisness. Can you imagine how many billions the chemical industry earns by selling vitamins?
There are really interesting books from a german food chemist (Udo Pollmer), but I think they are not translated yet. They deal with all the popular fallacies about food and health which are often just based on some "ideas".
Do not misunderstand me, I do not think that it is wise to eat a lot of fat or to consume a lot of salt. Try to consume things which you think are healthy, but do not understimate your instinct and do not overestimate recommendations of "experts".
