What kind of question is this? Seriously, think it over and tell us what kind of answer you would be expecting.

Well let me be the first to say congratulations!

Well done, if you really want to be here, it doesn't matter what time you get here, might be better to wait for the spring in my mind. Finland is very expensive. When does your classes start? maybe you should come here a few months before the beginning of school?

Seeing that you label this thread "VACATION"..I assume that you intend to come here on holiday in December then later start you masters course.

How long did you intend to "holiday" for and where in Finland?
Where are you going to live?
As it is bit cool here in December...you a need place to reside.

I first touched down here during the week between Christmas and
New Year's, and I'm still here, so I wouldn't say it's the worst
possible time

Ah, but I am, of course, a masochist, so that probably helped ;)

Depends on what you consider "better". It gets lighter after December but January is usually the harshest month for weather.

Come at the start of February and it will definitely get better from there.

I reckon Nov and Dec and the 2 worst months. Yes Jan is the coldest, but at least "usually" there is snow :)

Actually, I found Feburary to be more trying than December. Although I did start to go even more crazier than I am already from the lack of light thing. Have you noticed that yoghurts and margarine and stuff contains added Vitamin D?? There is good need for this.

Anyway. On reflection I found December trying because of the light thing and Feburary trying coz of the clothes thing (despite being raised by a finnish mother and repeatly told how to 'dress properly' I still can't manage to wear the right thing to suit the prevailing weather conditions)....

But BUT this chap has just arrived from Mexico....so he won't be all pale and light deprived just the yet.

Its all relative --- come in December and then Spring and its light and +7˚C temperatures seem tropical. Come in July, and it'll only get worse!

it's nice experiencing a finnish christmas, but it would help if you knew people here beforehand. i agree with some others; january is better than december because of the snow. it sucks when it's just cold and there's nothing to do.

YEP experiencing a Finnish Christmas is amazing. Like celebrating most things.........So bloody quiet and boring that only the good citizens of the big 4 cities seem to have any idea what life is. Everything is "Peace" which means buy a load of beer, do not go out, do not speak to anyone but family and RELAX, whilst drinking loads of beer ALONE.

Enjoy Christmas with your familiy in Mex and come in March April when at least LIFE is in sight, unless you love darkness, cold, boredom and ice fishing for tiny perch

:P
I do not need to know you will attend my Funeral. I would rather you call just to say Hi !!
