I don't love him, he coasted for my team in his final 2 seasons, and then when he accidently got a boot in the head off the gaffer, he acted like the big fairy he is, with his head band, parading his wound to the media, whose attention him and his stick insect witch of a wife seem to covet so much.

I hope they slip up next weekend and Barca take it. Then he can go and make sure he never gets to 100 Ingurland caps by playing in the Major <chuckle> league and his pet stick can go and be another nauseating hollywood celeb.

Later Becks, you could have done much better, if you'd kept it about football.

Agreed 110%, vicar, but on a more profound level, is it "about football" any longer? I mean, generally speaking. Beckham's £££$$$ value to Real (and to some extent United) far outstripped his importance on the field, simply because of his brand image and the number of column-inches and facsimile shirts he shifted in Singapore and Thailand and parts east and everywhere else. More or less regardless of whether he did the business on the field. And he is only the most famous poster-boy for similar trends throughout a game that has been hijacked by institutional and other shareholders who see a football club as a nice little earner. Or not, of course, in the case of people like Roman A.

Footballers on the front (rather than the back) page of the redtops are almost a necessity now. Beckham and Stick fit the bill perfectly.

Discuss.

True the Beckham horror show certainly seems to generates cash from retards. I'd take a Keane, Giggs or a Scoles playing football ay my club over a Beckham anyday though. He was always 4th best in a 4 man Utd midfield even at his peak.

Becks only real skill is to be able to "bend" free kicks accurately, on some occasions.

It sort of reminds me of my rugby playing times..(yeh yeh.. a few years ago  )..in those days we did not get paid..(OK..yeh there might have been the odd fiver found in ones boot after a good game

Anyway we had this full back who could kick the conversions and penalties from anywhere inside the opponents half with close to 90% success.
He attracted quite a bit of press attention and one day some guy from the US turned up at the club and offered him BIG BUCKS to play for one of the US Football teams.

His response was something like..
"I have no idea about the rules and tactics of US football, it would take too long before I could fit into the total team play.!"

The yank said.."no bother we only want you to kick the ball..rest of the game just stay out of the way!"..

Pehaps Sur Alex gave the same instructions to Beckham.. :D

By the way the guy did not go to the USA...His wife did not like to leave UK, and he did not like the concept earning his crust from a sport.
He is an industrial chemist by profession.
Last time I was in contact with him he was MD of a division of ICI.
People do not become more irritable as they grow old - they simply stop making the effort to avoid annoying others.

He's a great crosser of the ball. But if the left back is good enough and doesn't give him any time on the ball he's out of the game.

oh, but did you see the rags? It is as if he won the championship for Real Madrid*, that's all there was to notice.
Sort of, he went out at the right time, for the right guy

*More like Barça offered it, with Madrid -mallorca's referee as a strong contender...

There are a lot of stars in European football who would struggle over here.

I watched the Real-Mallorca game on GolTV (via TVUNetworks on the PC) and came close to projectile vomiting. Not only was it a North American outfit doing it (so to be fair they really had not much idea), but as their "pundit" they had this utterly atrocious Geordie called Ray Hudson, who could be a candidate for ritual disemboweling. He was foaming at the mouth about the wonderfulness of Real, who turned in a very patchy performance against a very mediocre Mallorca side. And Goldenballs covered himself in nothing much resembling greatness and was justly taken off, after which Reyes did the business.
