Cough cough

Post by FinnLizzie » Fri Oct 26, 2007 12:41 pm

So I'm not sure if this is in the right catigory but.... I've had a cold and cough here for about a month and I can't find anything to kick the sore throat! In the US I just buy cough drops and poof! All better. Here I've gone through boxes and bags of mentholated(sp) what not and nothing works. HELP! I have to sing for a concert in one week and I can't hit the notes

If cough drops re not helping.

1) gargle "sea" salt water 5-10 times, for 3-5 times a day and it takes the sore from the throat..
2) Just to feel good, Try the "Echino" strong drops. This can be found in the regular supermarket close to the honey and/or natural medicine sections
3) have lemon based tea with "honey"
I guess that the drops dont work because, the air is very "dry" here..

Try Strepsils (from a pharmacy).

I forget ..its not natural section, its the "Herbal" section..and the echino comes in 2 flavors, 1 not soo strong and a small bottle and another tall/thin bottle that is very strong that you get instantaneous relief and "argghhh" feeling because of its strength...

Have you seen a doctor though? If you have had a sore throat for a month you should have a swab taken in case you need antibiotics. The Finnish doctors will not dish out medicines unnecessarily but if they suspect there is a bacterial infection they will do the tests and call you back, then you pick up your prescription - only takes a day or two.

BTW next time you are in the US remember to stock up on cough, colds, sore throat medicines, allergy tablets etc and all the vitamins and supplements you need because they are MUCH cheaper over there than here. We stocked up two years ago in a cvs in Florida and we are still using some of the stuff we brought back.

I swear by a gargle of kossu from the freezer at the first sign of a sore throat. It seems to work and of course you get to swallow it too :D
Political correctness is the belief that it's possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

I support this one. I have had some coughing in the last months. Nothing alarming for me, I was all fine but for the coughing. Yet, my wife was worrying and pushed me to see a doctor, which I finally did after a while.

So, doctor found it all obstructed and whistling in my lungs, I had an acute bronchitis, which required antibiotics for 10 days.

Much better now, but I had some x-rays of my lungs taken after the treatment, just in case.

And at first, I just thought that pills could be enough
