Dunno, but I could easily presume so (I wonder if there's been any research into this?)

Be as it may - I don't personally much care whether enthusiastic -at least it seems that his enthusiasm is genuine- blokes like J Oliver are "great cooks" - if shows like that can inspire people, and especially guys, to find that cooking your own food can be 'cool' and fun even if you're not likely to become a Successful and Rich Master Chef - then where's the harm in that?

Well erm actually I do tend to wince at the by-products... J.O. kettles and J.O. pans, no doubt they'll eventually sell J.O. bog rolls...

Can't answer your q., I was bitten by the kitchen bug long before these celebrity shows... maybe both aspects are true? Which vaguely reminds me, Vanamo ja Kolmonen was 'the' cooking-show in my childhood... seems quite out of date by comparison with what's on offer in this day and age... but... so do I.
No harm at ALL if this is the case. But if the case is that rather than poring over Mrs Beaton in the kitchen and making stuff, people are watching celebrities doing it instead and then going down to Waitrose and the frozen Jamie "This is one I made earlier" Oliver or the Gordon "I made this, you fat fuqwit, now eat the fuqqer" Ramsay gourmet meals cabinets, then I'd see it as just another example of how we are becoming a race of watchers rather than doers. Homo non erectus plasma luminensis.

Is all I was thinking...

You have a point there... but yes sir, we have no answer. In fact, same sort of thinking was applied to the supposed "book reading craze" of today's youngsters because of Harry Potter. Someone (rather cynically, but maybe truthfully nevertheless) pointed out that it ain't necessarily so, the kids are just hungry for more and more Harry Potter books.

Btw, my answer may have contained elements that referred not so much to your earlier post but rather, in a vague manner, reflected on and purported to answer those of some other posters' opinions expressed earlier.
