All the info is here:

http://www.jyu.fi/hum/laitokset/solki/yki/

You can also buy the book & CD (about 20e from memory) online, look for "Yleiset Kielitutkinnot Testiesite - Suomi", ISBN 951-39-1480-1.

Thanks for the info.

I think that keskitaso is the one we should do and also it says in the website that
Keskitaso, the intermediate level test, is best suited for skill levels 3-4 (on the National Certificate's 6-level scale.)
for citizenship exam is it level 3 (keskitaso) or national certificate level 3?

Well, in principle you can also do a Swedish test.

As penelope stated - yes you do have to pass a language proficiency test and have the certified (offical paper with the stampy thingy on it) results with your application..and also Hank is right too..it can be in either Finnish or Swedish :)

Or you can pass the official translator's exam from or into either of those two languages.

Easy peasy!

What is this official translator exam?

Is it different from the one stated here?

Heard that the exam is difficult, any idea or any tips for it?

Thanks

generally it may help to familiarise yourself with the format of the exam and the types of questions you will be asked on the exam through doing past exam papers and the like.

I would be interested in obtaining the book, since I'm planning to take the Keskitaso test in August.
I did a preparational course at Helsingin aikuisopisto, and they were using practice tests copied from said book "Yleiset Kielitutkinnot Testiesite - Suomi", ISBN 951-39-1480-1. Unfortunately, that book is out of print, and also unavailable in libraries. Does anyone happen to have a copy at home and would be willing to borrow or sell it to me? I'd be eternally grateful.

Hello,

I would like to ask if there is anyone who have taken the language test lately.
I would like to know the level of difficulty of the test and how it is administered
I have done some basic Finnish courses in the past. A1-A4 from Helsingin Aikuisopisto.
My main challenge is speaking and writing but which I plan to self-practice intensively.

I am planning to have it August for my citizenship application.

Thank you very much.

Hello there
I was in profiency test (keskitaso) in the end of last year. It was fairly simple and easy. I will write my experiences.
It was very loud in the room. Because half of the room was filled by Russian speaking old ladies shouting at their microphones and I got confused several times. Sometimes I couldn't hear the sounds coming to my headspeakers from computer.
I would suggest you to read lots of Finnish newspapers, listen Finnish radio stations, watch Finnish news and/or tv shows if possible. Try to talk to your Finnish spouse in Finnish. Try to avoid talking in English in your daily life. Read lot of seiska (the Finnish magazine). It helped me a lot.
Start to make imaginary Finnish friends and write them emails. Can be about anything. For example in the test the subject was "you are arranging a party and want to invite "x" person. Send him an email, write about your arrangements and invite him".

heheh this was my favorite part. I wrote:
Dear Megan Fox
Long time no speak, how you been sexy? I'm writing this email for inviting you to my home party next saturday at 24.00 with other friends. We have a dj, good music, lot of karhu and kossu, a grill at the garden filled with bunch of makkara and stuff. We are planning to eat a lot and become very drunk then we do what ever intoxication leads us to... I arranged sauna and huge bed for both of us in the basement.

.....
and more absurd things..

I guarantee you will pass the test if you do all I wrote above. Good luck. Any more questions welcome.
