Hello,
Does anyone know if there are any shops or places in the Helsinki/Espoo/Vantaa region that sell raw unpasteurized milk?
thanks

Re: raw milk?
OK, so you need to find a cow. Now the EU rules did quite a havoc with small farms selling the milk off the farm - I thought they outright banned selling it straight from the tank, but you apparently still can, if you get some sort of health certificate/licence for doing it...
Anyhow, this is the only farm I found on a cursory look in the "Helsinki area"
Bisa gård
Dick ja Marjaana Sjöblom
Vantaa, Nurmimäentie 16 (Itä-Hakkila / Sotunki)
09-876 4768
Magic word is "tilamaito" or "tinkimaito"... they do sell "luomumaito" in regular stores, which is not homogenized, but the dairies have a hard time convincing people to pay the price, so the neonexistant market takes care of the supply, as usual.

Re: raw milk?
Luomumaito is the same price as HYLA juoma which everyone buys (beats me why though) so I don't think price is the issue.
There is also "Midnight" milk which is not homogenised and comes from cows milked during the night. In all the supermarkets, look for Yömaito (or something like that)

*groan* that stuff invented the rule: "never buy anything claiming to be a drink"penelope wrote: HYLA juoma which everyone buys (beats me why though)

I drink milk so seldom I think I should try the "yömaito".

Re: raw milk?
Whats HYLA? Low lactose or something?
And why would you want to buy milk from cows milked at midnight? Is it some biodynamic farming thing?
Lastly, I always buy luomumaito so does my flatmate - is it homogenised? (where they mix it up so it doesn't separate -- I'm assuming its all pastursized (where they heat it up to kill the bugs))

Re: raw milk?
Low lactose brand. Midnight milk has melatonin more than daytime milk... (cows are milked around 4am anyways). And if the milk separates, then it does.

Re: raw milk?
They are all pasteurised and yes, luomu (organic) milk is NOT homogenised.
