Summer Job

Post by li_dia » Tue Feb 12, 2008 11:41 am

Accepting the fact that in Finland it is very hard to get any kind of job, anyway I want to start talking about summer job opportunities. I think Im not the one in a row who wants to work in summer. So lets find a key how for foreigners get a job here.
First of all the easiest way working here, by my experience, is to pick up strawberries. In Finland there are a banch of farmers welcoming anybody to work on them for 1-3 months. It is a hard job though, mostly for very healthy people who dont have any problems with back, legs and on.
Serfing through websites I found some opportunities for skillful programmers, or students who gonna work in IT technology.
But I still have a huge puzzle what to do in summer. Picking up strawberries after 3 years doing that I dont have any wish. What other ideas can come here , please share.

sure. IT area is ok, however, salaries are lower then in other countries.

Berry pickers positions are flooded by Russians. You can probably compete them, but it could be challenging.

What exactly do you mean? How much lower? What you think is the average summer IT job salary?

Thanks.

Satama Center in Joesuu is offering summer jobs. They even urge you to hurry and apply because most summer jobs are filled by early spring. They even use the Finnish equivalent for "The Early bird gets the worm". :)

As general advice, the companies I know here who take on summer workers (students seeking experience), sort out the candidates as soon as the new year hangover clears.

Perhaps what they mean is, "Finnish with English skills" ? :)
