Your daughter will not start school until she is 7 so that will be August 2009. I do not know of any Spanish language schools in Helsinki. You can check for yourself on here:

http://www.helsinki.fi/en/index/koulutu ... uages.html

However, it is possible for children to receive 2h per week mother tongue tuition throughout their schooling. I believe this is also available to pre-schoolers (in class 0 at Päiväkoti) but I am not 100% sure.

If you want your child to learn Finnish then a Finnish day care is the best solution.... total immersion.

By the way.... immersion schools are aimed at Finnish kids who want to learn Swedish/English/French/German. They are not intended for foreigners who want to learn Finnish. Their Finnish Foreign language programmes are either non-existant or poor.

As for you. Teaching in a school will usually require fluent Finnish skills. I know of a few schools that teach Spanish but you will find it difficult to get enough hours per week to make a living. Most Spanish teachers also teach either Swedish, English or French, probably both. You might be able to get some additional hours in a private language school.

Otherwise check the job situation on http://www.mol.fr

Hola Penelope! Thanks, what I meant for my daughter "immersion" is what you said :
//However, it is possible for children to receive 2h per week mother tongue tuition throughout their schoolin.//
How do I do this? Is it possible in any school for her age?
I also read , immigrated kids may have a year to " integrate" .

If you want your child to go on the immigrant integration programme then you need to make an application. In Espoo there are places allocated in a certain number of regular primary schools. Not sure if Helsinki works the same way but you should be able to find the info on the link I gave above. The immigrant integration programme is sort of sandwiched (dove-tailed) into the regular classes. I have heard some good reports about these programmes.

As for the 2h week mother-tongue training there is simply a form you need to fill in (it is probably on the internet , if not any school can give you a copy). It is a national programme and every student (who has a mother tongue other than the national languages) is entitled to join, however there is a minimum class size requirement. I'm sure Spanish is not a problem though, there must be several classes going in Helsinki. I used to teach English on that programme in Espoo. It is not perfect (there is very little budget if any for books and materials) but it enables the kids to meet each other and interact in their mother tongue and IMO it is a great initiative. The classes are often mixed (ages and fluency) but that is not necessarily a problem. There are sometimes vacancies for teachers on that programme.... the municipality school office in Helsinki could tell you more.
