Pizza in Finland is sooooooooooo disgusting, surely the judges had their taste buds removed before crowning the winners

Hands down, Chicago deep dish pizza is the best in the world   :ochesey:

I guess anyone who bothered to read the article would have managed to notice the fundamental fact that it was not pizzas in Finland that were being judged, merely two Finnish pizza chefs who entered the competition.
Political correctness is the belief that it's possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

Also, Virgin Oil (in the Helsinki city centre) has got really tasty pizzas IMO.

The best pizza I've had in Finland is in Pieksämäki. Yes in the heart of Nowheremäki. A little Italian restaurant and nothing else has come close. The most unusual pizzas have to be from a bar in Hankasalmi. No "kebabishness" here but for the price you pay, they are massive.Deep dish style with toppings poured on. Impossible to eat in one sitting. I can't see how they make money. The worst pizzas generally come from the kebab places, and unless you know the place as some (but not many) are good, its better to fork out a few more euros and getting something a tad more respectable.
New York pizzas are similiar to Toronto pizzas and it sure would be nice to eat a large pizza :) . , and large means large. You pick up a slice with your hands, non of this knife and fork stuff and stretch the cheese out after a bite.....mmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Yes well - the worst pizza was in New York, soggy and talk about soggy, and in Italy it looked like something that even Atria makes better from a wrapped plastic - those were quite at par with the Porvoo Rosso in the 1990's. Then again, maybe not the best but the tastiest pizza I've had in the US too... and of course miami subs, but thats another story all together. I don't want "authentic" I want something I "like".
The most ridiculous thing is that the Maajussi Finn that started Kotipizza made a big hoopy-di-do some years ago saying that he used some phony cheese mixture as Finns would NEVER want mozzarella.
Whats it ridiculous almost all pizza is kosher in NYC? AFAIK the cheese is the fake one in those.

Come to think of it as far as Pizza experiences go, I don't know if the big bloke at the "Topkapi" still asks for "tulinen ja mieto", but that place allowed you to go experiment into the weird world of Turkish... objects fried in a pizza oven called a 'pide'. Compared to the Kotipizzas making their entry - which were too... uninventive and.. with the extra bland - the 'pide' experiments provided some spice in life. And don't start me on Rosso... the local one was a disaster. Not to mention the pizza place in Orivesi that was if possible worse outhouse toilet coverings. Then I visited a Rosso in Salo and was quite surprised it wasn't half as bad, the thing about my locals also I've noticed is that it depends on the cook what you get. But I usually try the "Turkish" places as they might have surprises... so far touring the locals have given only one that has an inkling of hope if one is desperate.

BTW has anyone noticed the thumb rule - if the pizza is good, the "other stuff" is not so, and if you go for good grub otherwise - steer clear of the pizza?

Nerone in Punavuori serve some of the best pizza in Helsinki. Decent crust. Decent toppings. Not greasy and very tasty. And consistent with quality. Its well worth a visit or for take away IMO.

Yeah, which part of "cheese" you didn't get? Not saying the kosher pizza was bad, but the dairy & meat means if the meat wasn't tofu, the cheese was... ? Just referring your kotipizza cheese comment. So whats wrong then with "fake cheese" if it has nothing to do with quality or hygiene

Which part of mixing meat and dairy did you again loose in that? Either you go veggie or fish when you can have cheese, or then fake meat/sausage/whatever. Or then real meat and pareve cheese substitute (which I think the latter people don't do that often) IIRC most of the pizza places are the first way around. Diabolical spinach pizza, but I wasn't always that impressed. Then again I was backpacking at the time and went to cheap places. But thats what I do here too ;)

I second Virgin Oil. One of the only brick ovens in Helsinki, as far as I know.
