Visa is only for entry ( and exit and re-entry).
If you have a permanent resident permit based on work, and you go and work in another EU country, your permit is not valid as it is tied to a job in this particular country.
you need to apply for one in the country that you are going to work as you are liable for taxes there.
if it is like a business trip it might be ok ( few days etc).
During the time you have your permanent resident permit ( it is also equivalent to a visa), you can travel around the Schengen region without requiring another visa ( for non-EU residents) for travel and some business but not permanent work.
If you are EU, you dont need the visa anyways.

If you move with the wife, then its not as much a problem, as EU migrants can go with heir non-EU spouses.

I was just wondering if you could ellaborate some more on this. Not that I am leaving anytime soon with the abundance of jobs here, tropical climate, piece of cake language, etc... If my Finnish wife ever wanted to move to another EU country, would this be really easy?? Does being a Finnish Resident Permit holder make this easy. Thanks in advance, I was just curious as I will definately be here for years but after that...

Where are you from? Maybe the best thing to do is go back there and apply for a visa to whatever country you are thinking of going to... :)

I'm sure someone corrects me but...

It is easy for your WIFE. She has right to go as she pleases and settle.

You are just granted right to tag along. In short, life (or until getting citizenship) sentence without parole.

As told, if your permit is based on job... It is tied to job. Switch country and job and you may have to reapply.

Well, after 5 years residence in Finland, you can apply for the EC long-term residence permit. With this permit, you can go to work in other EU countries (minus UK, Ireland, Denmark) alone without your Finnish wife. So it's only 5 years of sentence without parole. :)
