I just spent half an hour on the Lufthansa site and I can't find any cheap tickets.... it's quoting me 400 euro for Helsinki - Bristol whether I travel midweek or weekends.
If I just want to go straight to the CHEAP flights how do I search??? At the moment the only way seems to be trial and error and that is just taking me way too long..... any tips? I don't really care WHEN I travel (eg: mid September-ish)

are you getting a big matrix with departure date on the left column, return date across and prices for each combination ? that's the quickest way to search, try lufthansa finnish site it the uk one doesn't give you the matrix.
it might be that they don't have cheap prices to bristol for some reason though - but there are plenty to birmingham and manchester like someone else found. perhaps it's only to those cities listed in the "top offers" page pull down list.
you can also try searching for helsinki-frankfurt and frankfurt-bristol. if you don't get a cheap fare for helsinki-frankfurt then you won't get one for helsinki-frankfurt-bristol and vv. It's sometimes easier to put it together like this.

I looked on the UK site and there were some REALLY cheap deals from Bristol to Frankfurt (eg £39 one way) but then when I tried to look on the Finnish site I just got the regular prices. I'm probably doing something wrong.... I never got a table with all the prices, only the schedules. So I've given up. Too complicated.

If you look in the normal "flight" tab reservation boxes on the left of the frontpage, you get no joy.
You need to look under the section "Europe from 99 €" slightly to the right of centre from the middle of the front page. Click on "More offers" at the bottom of that section, enter your destination and dates, and it gives you the Finnair website style of table with prices... the cheapest are highlighted for you.
