Yep he's looking like our purchase of the season, although the keeper he replaced was a bit of a liability (Barthez). The one we had before that, in his prime was one of our greatest keepers ever (Schmeichel), his performances are still fresh in the memory so it takes a great keeper to live up to the United fans expectations at the moment. Howard seems to be doing that and then some.

The "new Zidane"? I doubt it, but would be great if we could start getting the best out of him. He is, by all accounts, very talented, but has questionable consistency and attitude.

Unfortunately Cheyrou has to do a hell of a lot more than have one game to get the Kop singing his name. He's had a lot of bad luck with injuries. Maybe he'll come good with a run in the side.

However, when he was signed he was billed as a left-sided midfielder and Harry has that berth sewn up. Also said he can play "in the hole", which aint gonna work cos Ged sticks to a rigid 4-4-2- look what happened to Litmanen. He's also said that he would relish the opportunity to move to centre midfield- errr... learn to tackle first, sunshine! And anyway, what is it with these wide players, always want to move to centre-mid?!?!?! So at the moment he's only in the side cos we have all of our first choice strikers injured about from Big Em. He'll be back in the reserves when Ickle Mike, Milan Baros, Florent Sinama-Pongolle etc. come back...

Having watched last night's game, I'd warn against getting overly enthusiastic. Cheyrou did despatch the goal with some aplomb, but he missed an equally nice chance set up by Heskey (who in my book at least turned in a much more solid performance) about ten minutes earlier. The rest of the time I was hard put to spot the French chap.

Riise had a nightmarish twenty minutes or so - seemed completely incapable of telling the difference between red and blue shirts. Difficult to recognise him from the player of a year or so ago.

MOTM for me came from a very bizarre direction: Jimi Traore at left back.

And Chelsea weren't worth a point, even if Mutu was a bit unlucky. Would have been even unluckier if the first-timer keeper had let one in without touching the ball, though.

I didn't feel too despondent until watching the highlights on ITV'S premiership show. The panel confirmed that Van Nistelrooy was definately offside for the 2nd goal, just as was Solskjaer for last season's last minute equaliser......these things are supposed to even themselves out aren't they......except when you're a smaller club.
The next time you don't get the rub of the green Ferguson will still complain about the incompetence of officials no doubt.

Sir Alex and Big Sam seem to be close buddies these days........Ferguson is attending some big charity bash at the reebok this weekend as a personal favour to Allardyce.

Liverpool v Portsmouth
Everton/Fulham v West Ham

Would be nice to see mu v mc as well. Also more PL clubs against each other. Lets hope that we see some giant killing.

Yep a Manc derby would be the dogs proverbials, I have doubts about city getting through the Spurts replay though

I reckon sports academy would be your best bet junot, i'd come and join you if I wasn't shifting stuff from one house to the other, looks like i'll definitely make the bash at Manala on saturday though. Are you coming along to that?

Yes, my sentiments entirely - on the Premiership clubs drawn together... I think the journalists all too often get worked up about Non-League vs. Premiership drama, whereas in the longer term, seeing the back of five or six Premiership clubs automatically now, a further two or three automatically in similar match-ups next time out, and you've got the makings for some interesting later rounds with 1st and 2nd Division clubs actually in with a shout at quarter-final and semi-final places...

And I was highly impressed with Charlton's second-half performance last night. Was like a tidal wave at times. Didn't SEE the first half, which is probably just as well. After the Birmingham - Sunderland debacle, about which I'm still fuming, for personal financial reasons, I notice with some vague satisfaction that what I wrote back in December has come to pass. With Sunderland matched against Sheff U and Millwall against Tranmere, my understanding of things is that there is a 2/1 against chance of a non-Premiership club appearing in Cardiff. When's the last time a team from a lower division made the FA Cup Final?
